Troubleshooting

#1
This is a guide to help people who have common issues, such as installation problems.

Installation:
Problem: The Flight Toolkit fails to install with the error that it can't find Flight.exe
Solution: Make sure you have Flight installed. If you are not sure you can install it form here: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9800616

Problem: The Flight Toolkit fails to install with the error that Flight.exe is the wrong version
Solution: This can happen if you previous installed Flight prior to the last update for it came out, and never ran it again before the Flight servers were shutdown. Your best option in this case is to uninstall Flight, and then reinstall it form this link: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9800616

Problem: The Flight Toolkit fails to install with an generic error
Solution: Look for the installer log files in %temp%. There should be several that start with "Flight_Toolkit_<some numbers that represent a date>_". Please email them to flighttoolkit+support@gmail.com, and make sure to include the one that ends with "_FlightToolkitSetup.msi.log"

FSX Conversion:
Problem: Some scenery such as the Golden Gate bridge do not show up in Flight.
Solution: It has been reported that this happens if you try to use a folder in your user directory as the output folder. Make sure you use a folder that is not in "C:\Users", "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files (x86)".

Running Flight:
Problem: The DLC that is enabled in Addon Manager doesn't show up in Flight.
Solution 1: Check the log file in %appdata%\Microsoft\Flight\ContentErrors.log to see if there are any relevant errors about the addon.
Solution 2: Check to see if you have both the Steam and the standalone version of Flight installed. If that is the case you will need to uninstall the Flight Toolkit, uninstall the Steam version of Flight, and then reinstall the Toolkit. Launch the standalone version of Flight afterwards and you will hopefully have working addons.

Stonelance,

My problem is more basic than getting the Flight Toolkit to work with MS Flight--for me, when I attempt to start Flight, I get the wait cursor icon briefly, then nothing. No errors, logs or even crashes are generated, as far as I know. While I could spend considerably more time troubleshooting, after spending the majority of one day and part of the next trying to get Flight to work in Windows 8, I don't have the time to put into it to fix the problem; however, if there is an easy fix that I am overlooking, then any direction would be most appreciated.

I have upgraded to Win10, but retrying Flight gives me the same result.

Thank you for your time and any recommendations.

Not sure. I would try uninstalling everything and making sure flight works on it's own without the toolkit installed if you can. Also, check the windows error logs for issues.

Have uninstalled both and reinstalled Flight only...no luck in starting...

Trying to reinstall C++ Redistributable--attempting to fix mfc100u.dll problem. Any other ideas?

#6
Not sure what the question is, George. That's the location that GFWL installed the program--thought it a bit odd, considering it should be a 64-bit program, but don't know for sure. I had previously had Flight working in Win8 about a year ago, then tried using it again about a month ago--I'm sure that there was some update from Microsoft that had unsettled things, but I've no idea what.

Tried a couple different versions of the C++ Redistributable, but nothing worked (mfc100u.dll was replaced with new versions each time--I tried 2010, 2011 and 2013 redistributables). I thought given the expertise with working with the platform before, something might have looked familiar to Stonelance. Not sure what else to try...

I might be able to get more info from the bucket id number, but I don't have time to look into it right now. It may be a month before I can really look into it. I believe I have run Flight on Win 10 without problems though, so it may not be Win 10 specific.

Are there any useful messages in the Microsoft Flight ContentErrors.log?
