• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Type 4 Engine - Rocket

I can't seem to find anything as to if these are actually supported or how to set them up. Anyone ?

From the P3DV4 SDK aircraft configuration section
Roy
engine_typeInteger that identifies what type of engine is on the aircraft. 0 = piston, 1 = Jet, 2 = None, 3 = Helo-turbine, 4 = Rocket (not supported) 5 = Turboprop.

My Apologies, I forgot the tag for MSFS. Thank you though.

Is that a legacy thing? Maybe Rockets were in Combat Flight Simulator and newer versions of FSX and P3D and MSFS simply don't support rockets anymore. It wouldn't be the first time that there was a parameter that was in older sim versions and is no longer supported.

The MSFS section is almost identical
SDK Documentation 03 content configuration simobjects 00-aircraft Aircraft configuration Engines.html
Engines configuration File
engine_type:

However there is mention of an electric type elsewhere.
If you want to simulate a rocket, use a jet with a lot of thrust and not much weight, works well for weapons

You're correct. I went back through the SDK lastnight, its right there in big print and somehow I over looked it. Using turbine would probably work, configuration set to burn through the fuel in 83 seconds and keeping the pressure difference as high as possible through all altitudes. It might perform similarly to the XLR-99 engine used in the X-15. I wish the altitude wasnt limited to 275k ft. 😏
