• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

unable to move objects in 2024

Windows just screwed up all my settings. I am now having a problem in devmode. When I place an object it starts in rotate mode, but I can’t change it to elevate or resize, it just reverts straight back to rotate mode. Even using the Gizmo it does the same. I have just updated to 1.4.4, but it was the same with the older version. It works fine in 2020, possibly a conflict somewhere if anyone has come across this before. I've been using it for 4 years and never had this.
Any ideas.

Hi Neil:

I have not yet tested the behavior of MSFS 2024 DevMode Scenery Editor GUI after the SU3 update was installed, but here is what the online 2024 SDK docs still say:

https://docs.flightsimulator.com/msfs2024/html/2_DevMode/The_Edition_Gizmo.htm

"NOTE: In the Scenery Editor, altitude may not be editable if the Snap To Ground option is checked in the element Properties."

As to "Rotate" mode, that is now "Pitch", and the animated GIF of Gizmo features in SDK Docs 'skips over' Heading edits that can be applied to the example object.

WHY ?

IIRC, 3D modeling and placement axes have changed in MSFS, so Z-axis and Y-Axis have been 'swapped'. :banghead:

BTW: I was forced to install SU3 when MSFS 2024 loaded, but the MSFS version number did not change to 1.5x afterwards, and it initially stayed at version 1.4x.

After the next re-start of MSFS 2024, the version number changed to 1.5x; perhaps a silent "fix-it" was sent by Asobo on the next start-up without notice ?

I hope this info may prove helpful; I'll take a look at the DevMode GUI changes later today or this weekend to see whats new after MSFS 2024 SU3.

Thanks Gary. Snap to ground was off. I'll experiment tomorrow. i wish they'd stop messing with it. Worked great until now. I'll get back to you tomorrow. Thanks. Neil

I'm still having the same problem. Maybe there's a conflict somewhere. MS2020 works perfectly, move, elevate rotate, easy. 2024 still stuck on rotate. snap to ground is off. This only really affects elevate. I normally click the central button on my mouse to change setting (ie, elevate, re-size,rotate) but it flashes straight back to rotate.!

Hi Neil:

I am still on the road running Saturday errands, and have not yet had time to fire up a project in MSFS 2024 SDK Scenery Editor.

While awaiting 'She Who Must Shop', my mobile phone browser turned up some possible orher factors which may imact the Gizmo placement Altitude anomaly you are reporting.

IIUC, there are some additional "Snap To" parameters which merit un-checking during placement for Altitude:

https://docs.flightsimulator.com/msfs2024/html/2_DevMode/Scenery_Editor/Objects/Scenery_Objects.htm

I hope this may prove to be useful.

Another possibility might be when placing copied pre-placed objects that are "Locked" in Scenery Editor if one attempts to change Altitude, they may not budge if they are "Locked", even if no Altitude 'Snap To' is checked in the copied objects properties.

Hi Neil:

I just got an opportunity to install and test an MSFS 2024 SDK 1.4.4 - SU3 updated Sample Project: SimpleAirport.

In DevMode Scenery Editor at MYNN, next to a utility building, I was able to place:

asobo-modellib-aorport-generic: Gen_Airport_RedWhite_Antenna_01

When I opened the Properties dialog for that object, I un-checked "Snap To Ground"

I was then able to grab the White Dot (Datum / RefPoint / Origin Of Axes) at center of the object base

I was able to pull upward in Scenery Editor and raise the object above ground level.

In Properties dialog for that object, 'Offset to ground' shows how far I raised that object AGL.

The object stays where I placed it.

I do not see Gizmo changes being imposed on my placement in the live 3D flight session or in any Scenery Editor dialog box.

You may wish to load the MSFS 2024 SDK 1.1.4- SU3 updated Sample Project: SimpleAirport and see if there is a difference.
