• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello,

when exporting a specific object from Gmax to FS9 the following error message occurrs:

Bild_027a.jpg

The text does not mean anything to me.

How can it be avoided?

Many thanks

Helli

I get those sometimes but it's not an error. Just a helpful tip. Your model should still export.

Hi Helli,
one object has a wrong scaling factor. Please try this. Click on the Commandpanel on "Hierarchy" and click the last button. "Reset: Scale"

Normaly this was the solution. I hope, it works for you.

If if still doesn't work after using Reset Scale, try "Merging" all the parts into a "New" workspace. That sometimes strips out the problem as well.

The most common cause of the dread "OBED Scaling Error" is that at some point that part (or parts) had been "Grouped" and then "Ungrouped."

The "Ungroupping" is what does the dirty deed. There is a rounding error that causes the scales to be inexact. For example, instead of 1.0 you might see something like 0.99999999999999998

Hello flyhalf, Manfred, Bill!

Many thanks to all of you for your replies.

Flyhalf, you are right, the model gets exported.

Manfred, your suggestion did not change anything.

Bill, your suggestion worked, the error message was gone but so was the texture. During the "Merging"-process Gmax did not ask whether and which texture should be used.
I am specially grateful for the explanation, what causes the error. Interesting that the nuisance "rounding error" can lead to such disturbances.

with gratefulness

Like the Doctor replied when the patient complained "Doctor, my arm hurts when I do this!"...

"Well, don't do that then!" ;)

Pretend that the "Group" and "Ungroup" features don't exist at all. Use "Link" instead whenever you want to sort parts into some sense of order. ;)
