Unknown Ground Poly Problem

Hi everyone,

I am having another issue in my scenery design. I have created a ground poly in blender and cut the poly into segments and then mapped each section to a 1024x1024 image. I then exported it as a .x and .mdl file. I converted all of the textures to .dds file with image tool. After that I tried to import the .x file into mcx but it only came up with one material slot and the ground poly was also flickering. I then tried to import the .mdl file and all the materials show up but the places where it should be transparent aren't transparent, they are dark grey despite my alpha map showing up correctly in the material editor.

I then decided to continue to see what happens and imported the .mdl into the ground poly wizard I set everything up and put my materials on layer 4, which got rid of the flickering but my textures still weren't transparent after that I set everything else up and exported it. I then launched FSX and was surprised to see that the usual building scenery files didn't popup like it usually does after adding something in. After loading up the airfield the ground poly was not there.

Does any body know what is happening?

I will include some screenshots of the various phases mentioned above.

You might have double faces, which cause flickering. Can you check that?
Hi, I have considered that but in blender there is only one plane, I have tried removing and double vertices but there are none and in MCX it appears there isn't any?

I can try upload my blend, mdl or x file if that would help?

George Airport? Nice choice ;)

Have you compared the polycount in blender to the triangle count in MCX? If I'm not mistaken, it should be 22 in blender and 44 in MCX.

Hi Spitz,

I thought George would be a good first proper scenery project.

I have just checked there are 22 in blender and 44 in MCX as you said. :scratchch

I have just made a discovery. I turned off the shadows display and now the textures are transparent and there is no longer flickering.

Also after a rename of the file my ground poly is appearing in FSX as well.

Thanks for everyone's help though
