• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Unlocking an object

Hi

Ok I finally decided to take the plunge and made an investment in FSDS.
I just couldnt figure out GMAX. So, Ive made my first object and it turned out very good IMHO. Its just a small shack that Ive seen at my local airport.
Anyways It appears just like it is suppose to and I even was able to use LOM to put it in my own libray for EZ scenery. Now when I found it in EZ scenery
it only shows up and says basically its locked to that certain area. I wanna use it elsewhere too. Ive seen this discussion before and on avsim and Im
just not getting what I need to do to make it so I can use every where.
So what is the steps I need to take to unlock it?

I tried to remove the cordinates in FSDS and it wont create the BGL without them. So obvviously thats not the answer.

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

Objects become locked if you do combine the ModelData and placement commands in the same XML file. So if you put your MDL file from FSDS in an object library and do the placement in a separate XML file (or with EZ-Scenery) you should not have a problem with locked objects.

Arno,

Thanks for your response as always. Please forgive my ignorance as Im
so new to this stuff. Can you please explain to me a little more (better)
as to what I need to do. Im not quite following what you are saying.
I understand the locking part just more detail on unlocking.

I really want to learn this stuff so I wont have to ask so many dumb
questions over and over.

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

No problem, I'll try to explain it in a little more detail.

  1. First you make your object in FSDS, as usual.
  2. Next you export the object as a MDL scenery object from FSDS, this will give you a MDL object somewhere on your HD.
  3. When you have the MDL object you need to make an object library out of it. The library can contain more than one object of course. You can make a library with only XML code, but if you prefer a GUI tool try my Library Creator XML tool or the EZ-Scenery Library Manager that comes with EZ-Scenery.
  4. Assuming you use one of these tools, open your existing library XML or create a new library XML for your first object.
  5. Then add all the MDL files you want in the library to it. This is simply done by selecting the MDL files.
  6. Compile the library into a BGL file and put this BGL in an active scenery folder.
  7. No you should see the object in EZ-Scenery and be able to place it anywhere.

I hope this makes it a little more clear,

Arno ,

:) :) :) :) :) :p :p

AAHHHHHHH, now that makes a lot more sense to me. I will give that a try tonight and let ya know how it worked for me.

Again Thanks

Mike

Arno

It worked like a charm ! :) :) :) To be honest with you I had completely
forgotten about the Library Manager that came with EZ_Scenery.....
Thanks so much for the help again.......

Also Can we still upload objects to the Object forum ? May upload mine so all
have a look and use if they want. Kinda proud of my first object. :p

Hi Mike,

Good to hear you got it working.

Also Can we still upload objects to the Object forum ? May upload mine so all have a look and use if they want. Kinda proud of my first object. :p

Yes, you can, but the forum is moderated so they will not appear at once. For the future I am thinking about moving that forum into a sort of download section so that it is easier to share objects and other design related stuff with other developers.
