• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Updating the SDK

Hi all you good people. I have a silly question, is there any easy way of updating the SDK? Problem is that every time I need to update it, everything seems to break and I have to spend hours re-assigning textures and paths for 3ds in order to get things going again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards TJ

Yes Jan I do store them there, thanks for replying. I might have to change that habit and put them somewhere else, but where? Any suggestions?

Personally, I have a separate folder in my Documents folder called ”FSProjects” and put all projects there. Inside of that, I have sub folders for Aircraft, Scenery and SimObjects. Each project lives under the sub folder. So, under Scenery, I have a folder for each airport/scenery I am working on (or thinking about working on), and a separate folder for Asobo’s sample airport which I use as a learning aid. Inside each folder, I organize my projects similar to Asobo with a Source folder for my Blender, Substance and Photoshop files. Everything get exported to the PackageSources folder and let FS generate the Package folders build.

I would never put anything inside the SDK folder. The SDK is just the tools and documentation that you use. It's better to have your projects separate and only call sdk tools that you need.

Yes thanks Arno, that is a lesson I have just learnt the very hard way having lost about 3 months work. Lol.
Time to start again, guess if it weren't for perseverance, we wouldn't be developers, would we?
