• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Uploading aircraft

First of all:
Great thanks to everyone who helped me and/or is still helping me with many of my problems on this forum.
You guys are the best!

But my main thing here: When I create my own aircraft for FSX, where can I upload it, so that other people can download and fly it?

I'm interested with sides, where I could easily reupload next version of my craft over the old one, add detailed description, photos and links.
Are there any main sides that offer that?
Are there any sides that I should not upload to?

There are several sites you can upload your completed aircraft to, Mellin. The ones I can think of right off the top of my head are AVSIM, Flightsim, and Suclaro, but there are probably many places. However, once you upload it, the file you uploaded (the aircraft model remains yours) becomes the property of those sites and you cannot change it once they have posted it for download. Each one requires you to have an account with them, but I believe those accounts are free to set up.

Any "upgrades" you make to the model file have to be posted as a second or third file upload that essentially is an updated file. The original file remains available for download and people who download it will not see your upgrades unless they also download the updated file. Therefore, it's important that your project is sufficiently Beta tested by you and other simmers before you upload the file. No one likes constant "updates" to get a product to function correctly.

There are a couple of ways to make a model available for download that ensure the people who download your aircraft always get the most current upgraded model. One is to create a MediaFire account and upload the file there for others to download. Another is Microsoft OneDrive. You have to set up accounts with those two before you can use them to upload your aircraft. Again, I believe setting up an account is free.

MediaFire for sure will "tack on" ads people who visit your account will see and there will be "tricky" download buttons in those ads that may direct your intended target to those ad sites. People downloading from your free MediaFire account will have to be very careful when they select "download"

But the advantage is you control the files available for download at those two sites. All you have to do is make only the most recent version of your project available for download, removing any older versions from the download list.

Thanks for tips!
What about this side (resources/Aircraft design)?
Is Surclaro working? For some reson I get message:
Code:
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I dunno. Surclaro opens up for me just fine. Maybe something on your end is blocking it or it doesn't like your browser?

I'm not an aircraft designer, so I don't understand your first question.

If you look there you will see that it is a place for people to upload tools and material to create airplanes, it is not a repository for finished projects.

Due respect Randy, any site that claims ownership of uploaded files should be avoided like the plague.

The sites that I have worked with are managed by reasonable people and if you request that they remove an upload, most will.

I believe you have to register at SurClaro to get in.

cheers,
Lane

Avsim, Flightsim and Simviation are the primary places to go for addons, but easily managing updates and revisions is a bit complicated as it'll always involve the library administrators.

I prefer Google Drive for hosting files and for its easy revision management and Google Sites for project presentations. See the link in my signature.

Mellin,

Lane is correct and I probably used the wrong wording when I said "their property". Heretic is closer to the "spirit of the word" in what I wanted to say. All the sites you listed are fine, but as I explained...poorly...those sites administer or manage your file, not you. Replacing your original upload project with a changed or updated one is done through their management and requires emails back and forth getting the original removed and the new one in place. You cannot simply "remove" the original file yourself and replace it with something different. That's why if you go to any of those sites you can find files with names like "Update" and "Fix". Sometimes the authors who upload there, and I have used AVSIM before with great success, find it easier to just upload a revision instead of going through the trouble of requesting a file be removed and replaced.

The two I listed, MediaFire and OneDrive, as well as the one I have used also and completely forgot about, Google Drive, that Heretic suggested will let you manage your uploads. Removing, replacing, and adding files is under your control, not someone elses.

Your goal is an honorable one though. Making sure that only the finished, or most recent, or completely updated version of a project is available for download is a kindness to simmers everywhere. I can't tell you how downloads I have in my files that require an original and three or four updates and/or fixes. It's frustrating sometimes. I can understand it when an author makes an FS2004 or earlier project work in FSX or P3D or Xplane. You would be surprised, however, just how many "fixes" are for simple things like the course knob not working or making an icon open up the panel or view that was intended.

So until now I would say that the best way would be:
Create a cloud drive, on to which I would constantly add any modifications of my aircrafts.
Create a one profile on each of those sides for each airplane with first version of it.
Add link to that cloud drive to description of that aircraft, If anyone would want newer versions.

I think I will go with that.

Thanks a lot everyone!

Hello All,

My name is Gonzalo Besoain and I run SurClaro since 1999. The upload interface had some troubles (and the whole site :( ) before but all are totally solved now from some time ago.

I invite you and everyone who want to publish his work to post it at upload.surclaro.com the upload and publish process must work flawlessly but if not I'm here to help you.

You can contact me here or at surclaro forums or at facebook fan page, I will be glad to work with you, no matter the type of contribution to the Flight simulation world you have, new categories can be created as needed.

Regards.,
Gonzalo
