• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Using a FS9 tweaked MDL file in FSX ? [Solved]

Hi Friends
I’ve search for long time on the forum and, as readed, it seem possible to use FS9 tweaked MDL file (with conditional animation) in FSX.

But I have some troubles: wich formats must i use in the different phases ? Assuming the MDL is in FS9 format (tweaked by MDLTweaker2), then

1) the bgl library where I put the MDL must be in FSX or FS9 format ?

2) the xml with the position of the mdl must be in FSX or FS9 format ?

3) what bglcomp must I use (Fs9 or FSX BGLcomp) for compiling the xml file?

4) Then I have troubles with the texture because the FS9 tweaked mdl use bmp texture and FSX accept only dds textures… that’s right ?

I’m very sad and depressed because I’ve done a lot of tests and nothing work…

Can anyone be so friendly and helpful and tell me how I can get a FS9 tweaked MDL working on FSX ? Thank you in advance, it will be very appreciated.

Problem solved ! It was a mistake between the "scenery complexity" value set in MakeMDL and the same parameter set in the FSX options. Creating and exporting tweaked MDL for FS9, then put bgl and texture folder in the right folder of FSX, work without problems.
 
Yes, you can use them. But you need to use the fs2004 bglcomp to compile them. You can't mix different mdl formats in one library bgl.
