• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX:SE Using Gis software with sceneproc

The GIS data I have is fairly limited on land use etc. Most places unless they have lots of money do not have very rich fill data sets in the US. I only have shape files from converted LiDAR for buildings , I was wondering if it is a waste of time or should i pursue.

I thought about creating new layers labeled as industry and business areas in cities for sceneproc and maybe highlight know tall buildings to tag them as what ever story high they are etc , I am just wondering if this could be possible in the first place, if it can be done and useful I have further questions on how to write a config file for that and also how to deal with not so rectangle buildings in rural areas.

Thanks in advanced

Hi,

If you don't have all data available creating some extra polygons for building types or heights is a common practice. Just make sure you give them logical attributes you can use in your script.

The manual has a sample script on how to categorize building shapes and cut complex buildings into rectangles.

next question what is considered a "logical" attribute and where can I find the list of GUID i can use?

Just assign a unique attribute name and value you can use. So you can select them in your script. For building height it could be building_height="highrise" for example. But it can be anything you want.

Scenproc reads the autogen configuration files at startup, so that you have code completion in the editor for the possible guids. So just start to type their names to select the guid.
