Thanks for responding, Graham. I suspected this was the case and it confirms my experimentation.
Individual AI can be made to follow waypoints in similar manner to the SimConnect operation using Traffic Explorer. However, it appears that each such operation is restricted to a single AI.
Since at this point the cause (i.e., tricking the AI engine into following waypoints and not attempting to land on them)appears hopeless, I will not be persuing such operation with AIFP further.
