• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

UVW-mapping problem with Gmax/FS9

I'm having problems with the UVW-mapping in Gmax vs FS9.
I have done the UVW-mapping in Gmax so that the texture is perfectly aligned on the object. When exporting this to FS9, the textures are not aligned anymore (please see the attached pictures).

Anyone have a clue what the problem is? Thanks! :)

I assume you just used the UVW Mapping modifier to do the mapping? Are you sure that the texture you have in your projects texture folder is the same you used in GMax? Normally there should not be such a big difference.

Yeah, just added the UVW-mapping modifier to the object and adjusted the properties (tile, flip and so on).
It is the same texture, absolutely sure (have checked 4 times).

Those "Properties" don't work in FS exported models.

You need to use the UVW Unwrap Editor.

The tile setting in the UVW Mapping modifier works fine, I always use that one. The settings in the material editor do not work indeed, that's why I asked about the modifier.

Here you said something. I was experimenting with the settings in the material editor, I will check so that I reset the settings afterwards.

You were correct, I had changed the settings in the material editor, not aware of that these settings wasn't beeing applied to the FS model.

Thanks for your help!

Sorry If I divert this discussion. I've a similar problem but concerning the position of my object in GMAX and in FS9. In GMAX my obj is perfectly aligned with the groundpoly image; when I export it it slight moved down. What's wrong?

Hi,

You exported both with the same reference point? And did you define an additional heading when exporting/placing?

Hi Arno, yes I used the same refpoint but the object have a heading value slightly different from groundpoly. Could be due this?

Could be. They both come from the same GMax scene where they line up? Then you should also export them with the same heading of course.

If the 3D object has its own local reference point (which is preferred in general), than you would have to figure out what the matching heading is.
