• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX vc cockpit transparency

Hi all,

The older I get, the more brain cells seem to stop working:rolleyes:.
I used to have the Fa-18's of Daisuke Yamamoto (please correct me if spelled wromg:eek:) working well in FSX, including the VC and its gauges.
Now that I switched computers to a Windows 7 one that is finally capable of dealing with FSX, I run into problems with my migrated FS9 aircraft in that I cannot seem to get my vc cockpit transparent any longer (I lost my panel.cfg's, in fact all cfg's, in the migrating process).
The gauges is not the problem, but the vc.bmp is (I think).
Can any one out there, enlighten me?

Roby

PS I know it has to do with the model but as MCX is not capable of making the conversion without losing the animations, I am looking for another solution.

Hi Roby:

One might wonder if you are using FSX in DX-10 mode when this anomaly is seen on the aircraft in question, and whether it happens in FSX DX-9 mode as well. ;)

There is a FS utility package called "Addon Converter X" which offers a executable module-based demo of 10-minute limited duration per FS session, which IIUC adapts a copy of one's legacy aircraft and/or scenery MDL and/or mapped texture format ...so that they may display properly when used in FS.

Addon Converter X
'adapting' of (copied ?) FS legacy content can be either performed at run time, or by pre-processing before run-time into what appears to be a encrypted database; the adapted copy of the legacy content is somehow linked / mapped back to the original (...used as a 'proxy' in FSX at run time ?).

BTW: Although Addon Converter X can correct 'most' legacy aircraft anomalies when such aircraft are used in fSX DX-10 mode, a more comprehensive approach to correcting anomalies seen in FS at run time with aircraft and scenery is reportedly planned for the soon-to-be-released "DX10SceneryFixer" payware product by Steve J. Parsons as a successor to his ongoing freeware 'DX-10 fixer' project as discussed in the AVSIM 'DX-10 Discussions, Hints and Help' Forum:

http://forum.avsim.net/forum/569-dx-10-discussions-hints-and-help/

...and on Steve's Blog:

http://stevesfsxanalysis.wordpress.com/2013/06/21/dx10-scenery-fixer/

If the fixes offered by the above do not work, perhaps texture format conversion and/or alpha channel editing may be of some help, short of a more in-depth conversion and re-export of a legacy aircraft MDL for use on one's own computer in FSX ?

Hope this info helps you (...or other readers). :)

Hi,

And thanks a lot Gary.
I had a look at the two sites.
The first one uses a method I am not sure I would like to install as it does not change the aircraft model or its textures itself and the second one is only for DX10 (and maybe the first one too?).
I do not use DX10 as I see no real difference between the two.
Anyway, I solved the problem the old fashioned way by adapting the panel.cfg and the BMP's alpha channels (it took a while:().
But thanks for the links (I did not know those programs existed).
