• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Virtual cockpit dummy poly problem FS9

I am having problems with the dummy poly being visible as a chrome shiny surface behind the guages in my VC. I have gone back to basics...even ran through the FSDS3 tutorial a few times and used the included $pan1 as the poly texture.

All existing aircraft display correctly so it appears to have occurred in FSDS3 or in the compilation by MakeMDL 9.0.

My only workaround for the moment has been to create panel planes in front of the gauge plane with cutouts...not very good on the poly count.... and as soon as I pull back from the panel a bit the chrome starts to bleed through again!

VERY FRUSTRATING

Bruce

Thanks Wozza,

I am going to have to digest all of the above. I am VERY unversed in "texture-speak". I prefer being able to simply follow the software help files but apparently with FSDS, for all of its virtues, support and bug fixes do not seem to be a priority. I cannot complain. In spite of a lifetime working with Autodesk software as an architect, I gave up on GMAX as far too complex for an occasional hobbyist. Maybe have to rethink that. Any hope for an Abacus fix? Is the Version 3upgrade for FSX fixed, or does it have the same bug? I have stuck with FS9 for the time being as I fly in my own little 1930's world to a large extent and redoing all that custom scenery scares me. (Also I like decent framerates.)

I flip back and forth between modelling and FS to test as I go and I can't see doing that degree of manual tweeking without errors (I have a low boredom threshold I guess). Wow, I'll have to see if there is another way around the shiny textures.

Sorry Just noticed the "3.1" fixed the bug. I'll upgrade.

I downloaded the latest version 3.5.1 last night and this morning reexported the model and ...presto...no more mirrored poly behind the gauges. Thanks again Wozza!
