• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi I Am Using FSDSv3 And I have my aircrafts exterior in a file called exterior.x and my VC and Virtua Cabin in a file called Interior.x But I cannot find a way to compile them together, using MakeMDL. I Think I got it correct but when I go into fs9 I see my Virtual Cockpit on the outside and when I go far away such as from the control towers view I see my external of the aircraft but when It flys close I see it all of a sudden change back to my VC. Can someone please help me I have spent many months working on this thing and I dont want it to be messed up! Thanks

you don't have to merge the vc and the external model together. they must go into two SEPERATE mdl files! Later, you define what's interior and exterior in your model.cfg in the model folder.

well thats how it is in FSX... should be the same in FS9

When compiling the .x files manually, you select the xxx_interior.x file in MakeMDL.exe and it will automatically find, load and compile the xxx_exterior.x file into a single .mdl for you.

I have to ask though, why on earth are you complicating the issue so much? After all, the whole purpose of FSDSv3 is to make everything seamless so that you won't HAVE to do any "manual stuff..."

It is not... FS9 & prior versions will accept only one combined model file...

Since you are using FSDS3, why are you manually compiling the two models?

Your Main model should be in the FSDS main model page. Your VC should be in the VC model page (with the model properties tagged as virtual cockpit).

When compiling, FSDS will take both models and compile them correctly.

IF you are compiling to FS-X, you'll have to wait for FSDS3.5 to have the separate exterior and interior models compiled.
