• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Want my background back

Hi All,
I'm new in the airport development business, so be patient with me, please.

The case is the following situation:
- I made an airport WWII Spilsby in ADE150.x.x inclusive a CVX.bgl for flatten+ exclude autogen+ mask land/water classes.
- I added it in the usual way into FSX default scenery and I had a nice background in a greenish fashion
- Next I added Horizon VFR generation X scenery Vol3 to FSX
And now my background is gone!

Due to the fact that Spilby nowadays doesnot exist anymore only the runways are visible with photo real todays scenery as background which is not WWII realisme.

So how do I block the photo real background and get my greenish background back.

I made this Spilsby airfield at first in Afcad and there you could specify for the surface of rwy and taxiway "grass/grass2/grass3" which was giving various greenish grass, so you could distinct between runway and taxiway.

( after decompilng that bgl file into xml I discoverd that the surface= parameter for rwy and taxiway ar set to "". But still giving different shades of green; how???)

I did not found that option in ADEX. If I could make aprons with the greenish background that the airfield has in default FSX scenery, so it can be distinct from rwy and taxiway grass, I would be happy.

So if somebody will be so kind to learn me that trick, I owe you one.

Thanks,
Koos

So how do I block the photo real background and get my greenish background back.

Unfortunately you can't, photo textures will always cover textured polygons.

You cannot edit the existing Gen-X textures.

The only way you can do it satisfactoily is to create another photo insert with your background painted on and then use Resample from the SDK\Environment Kit\Terrain SDK folder to create a new photo texture bgl and put this in a higher scenery layer than Gen-X.

You could also try Arno's ModelConverterX Ground polygon wizard.

Thanks George for showing the direction.

But, as I said being a newbee, can you guide me step-by-step along the road I need to walk in that direction?
Are there any manuals, tutorials, I can read to get the theoretical skills to do the job?

Thanks,

Koos

Probably the easiest tool to create photo-texture inserts would be SBuilderX. Luis Feliz-Tirado has a tutorial on Avsim. Search for filename

make_photo-real_ground_textures_in_fs_x.zip

However, it is not an easy program to use and you will need to create a blend-mask to use with Resample.

Hi George,

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try the way via SbuilderX. I have the program and probably the tutorial on my stytem, but never used it.

So again thanks for your reactions.
