• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA water not level

Hi folks
Is there a fix for this
Water_Break.jpg

This occurs north on Manitoulin Island in Georgian Bay.
Water is suppose to be at the same level

Sure and begorra, 'tis the answer to all me prayers. Oi'll be waterskiing without a speedboat, so oi shall!

Remove and replace what?
I spent some time yesterday following the cliff to see how far it extended
It basically covers the North East corner of lake Huron and most of Georgian bay. North of N45*11' and east of W83*40
Elevation that should be 576' is at 540' and 599'

BTW maybe I am not asking in the right place.
I did not add this. This is from either FSX original files or it might be UTX.
This "cliff" only affects the water.

But if there is a way to fix it, I guess this would be the right place to ask.

Michel

The problem is probably with the cvx bgl (vector file). If you have UTX, then that might be the culprit. Easy enough to deactivate the UTX files and see if that is the problem.

Giving a latitude and longitude might help someone make a guess at the problem.

Unchecked all UT scenery files and "cliff" is gone. So problem is with UTX.
I will contact them for this problem.

Hi Michel:

Although in some cases one may be able to alter or even apparently 'stop' display of certain Ultimate Terrain X ( aka "UTX") features by un-checking layers in the FSX menu GUI for Scenery Library, there may be other files placed by UTX in 1 or more of FSX's own always "active" sub-folders which substitute for default files ...which may not be affected by changes in made in the FSX Scenery Library GUI. ;)

As stated in the UTX documentation, to stop UTX display, one must do so via the UTX configuration utility GUI menu, which offers a "quick disable".

CAVEAT: If one is exploring FS scenery rendering, whether for personal use, or for development of scenery to be distributed to others (and whether for free 'or for a fee'), one must "Read The Documentation".:pushpin:

By doing so, the least that will happen is one will increase the likelihood of better understanding what is going on, and reduce the amount of time and effort expended by oneself (...and others if one's scenery is 'distributed' outside one's own computer).

Hope this helps with the learning process. :)

I apologize for my "impatience". I hate reading and most of the time, I just scan thru to find what I need for the moment, then I have a tendency to forget about manuals.
I had opened up the UTX setup (outside of FSX) and was looking thru all the menus' to find the "Disable" UTX and could not find it. So I went thru all of the sub menus and put them as "inactive". At that point, my problem area became ground instead of water. This is why I unchecked scenery files.

Taking a closer look and scanning(yeh, again just scanning, put a little more intensive scan this time) thru the handbook, I found the "disable".

As I suspected, with UTX "disabled", water level is within tolerance. In other word, no "cliffs", just slopping section to allow for different elevations in the lake due to natural occurrence.

I hate to be told "Read the documentation" but at the same time, I know that I should.

I spotted something interesting in my scan this morning that I will go back and read. It has to do with winter ice on lakes. I have notice that there's none right now with the standard settings. I tried once to land my plane on Georgian Bay in winter, which should be ice, but it was not.

I have sent a request in the UTX forum to check into this problem of wrong water levels. I will see what comes out of it.

thanks you for your "redirection"

Hi Marcel:

Looks like you "Ultimate-ly" did a more thorough review of the scenario, and are on the way to finding "Scenery Soutions" ! :)

BTW: It would be interesting to see some further add-on scenery developments in the area from Sault Ste. Marie along Mantoulin Island to Killarney and up through the Killarney Provincial Park to Sudbury, Ontario along the Georgian Bay area.

I was impressed with the scenery potential of that area after researching it in Google Earth as a result of seeing this video of the Northern Lake Amphibian Pilots' Fly-In held annually in Killarney, Ontario:

Having enjoyed real world flying in a Lake Amphibian for years, I was naturally rather inspired !

I was raised in Sudbury area and we had a camp off the French River. We could see this camp from out dock

http://www.wolseleylodge.com/index.html

I use to enjoy following the shore line in home built rafts as a kid, then in a canoe later on, until my dad sold the camp. That's were my heart is. I found out a few years back that there was a survey in 1909 to build a canal system from Montreal to Georgian bay that would have been passing about 3 miles from were we had our camp. It never got built. That is when my interest in canal system got really intense, and found the Great Circle. A route from Chicago down to the Mississippi down to New Orleans, then around Florida, up the west coast to New York, then up the Hudson river to Sorel, then up the great lakes back to Chicago. With a couple of alternate routes. All this thru lock system and intercostal canals, with a few exemptions. At 59 years of age and not financially favored, the only way to do this trip is in the virtual world. As for the Klondike, its been my dream boat ever since I got the Glen-L catalog of boat plans in 1976.

BTW, that lake amphibian looks like a real cool plane. The only small plane I have been in is my brothers 2 seater ultra light on floats and on skis for winter.
