• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

First post here...

Ok so I made myself a Lake which is on the Gold Coast, Australia.. one which FSX does not have.

The default FSX is shown below

FSX_KML_LAKE_DEFAULT.jpg

Ok so it looks quite bland.

So I created a Poly in GE and attached the following Description to it

Hydro_Polygons_Default_Perennial and I also tried Hydro_Polygons_Generic_Lake_Perennial which produced the same result which is shown below

FSX_KML_LAKE_Road.jpg

Ok.. so you probably have seen both shots now and some will know my question.. That road that seems to have the ability to ruin my lake... how do I remove it? Do I need to create a second Poly (which is the same as the first)and select remove everything and then place the lake on top of that?

How is this normally achieved?

Many thanks in advance.

Looks more like streams to me. You'll want to make a vector exclusion polygon (more likely several), targeting streams, whose bounding box(es) overlap the bounding boxes of the streams you wish to exclude.

Your lake looks great!

Sweet..many thanks

I played a little more last night and tested an exclusion of the whole lake before another poly (the same size and shape) of the lake.

It worked.

Going to experiment further tonight with more of the Gold Coast lakes.. there are an awful lot as the GC was built on a lot of reclaimed swap marsh.

I suppose next experiment after that is roads and terrain.

Problem is the airport (YBCG) in FSX has beach running around the aprons which is wrong... beach is a long way away from the airport so that too needs some attention.

Thanks for the advice!

Hello

A precision about Exclude tag (roads, rivers):

Even if you draw a precise polygon to exclude just a precise part (A) of a road (same for rivers):

1/ (A) is often just a part of a longer whole road vector (A'); generally continued to starting node, intersection with QMID11 grid, intersection with other road (look carefully at the road map in TMF viewer, and make tries to see what is exluded) ...
2/ exclusion will automatically extend to all road vectors included in the box (B), surrounding this whole road vector (A') (box: rectangle with NS and SW sides).

So, you'll have often to re-draw some parts of rivers or roads included in (B), that have been automatically excluded, even if not desired. Maybe a long work if very dense place!

If I read your post correctly, you are saying that if you draw a rectangular exclusion polygon that encloses the target shape entirely you also exclude other shapes of target type that go through the exclude.

Actually, it can be even more - you'll exclude all shapes of target type whose bounding boxes overlap the bounding box of the exclude (exclude bounding box = exclude polygon if polygon is rectangular and oriented with top/bottom parallel to the equator).

FSX vector exclusion behavior does allow you to be more precise. Since vector exclusions work using bounding boxes, you could draw a 1mx1m rectangular exclusion polygon that sits somewhere inside the bounding box of the target shape. It does not need to intersect the target shape itself, though where doing so does not present undesired exclusion, intersecting the target shape does make it easier to see what the desired target is, and making it larger does make it easier to find.
