• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Weather METAR Strings

Hi,

I'm currently trying to get some grip on changing the weather. Most of it works just fine but somehow I can not make it rain or snow.

So here for example is a metar string that according to this page http://heras-gilsanz.com/manuel/METAR-Decoder.html should contain snow.
GLOB 010000Z 12002KT 2000 SN NSC098 BKN262 m10/00 Q0994

and this one should generate rain
GLOB 010000Z 12002KT 3000 RA NSC098 BKN262 10/10 Q0994

and this one is not from me but it does generate rain
GLOB 010000Z 18005KT 4000 -RA BR BKN015 BKN060 23/23 Q1013

What do I wrong?

I set up with SimConnect_WeatherSetModeGlobal(m_SimConnect); and SimConnect_WeatherSetObservation(m_SimConnect, 0, metar.str().c_str());

You will notice if you put your METAR in the decoder it is missing a part of the cloud cover at 9800. Don't think NSC098 is correct - no N - should be SCT098 - Scattered 9800 feet AGL and m10 may need to be M10 for minus 10.

Maybe FSX does not like any error in the METAR.

try:

GLOB 010000Z 12002KT 2000 SN SCT098 BKN262 M10/00 Q0994

and

GLOB 010000Z 12002KT 3000 RA SCT098 BKN262 10/10 Q0994

Ok so according to METAR Spec the denominator of the phenomenon can be either minus, nothing or plus. Nothing means average.

I fixed the lower case letters but no change.

Hmm ok I just generated the first time working rain with
GLOB 010000Z 00000KT 9999 -RA SCT065 BKN164 OVC262 10/10 Q0994

Ah and finally I got why you where saying that NSC was incorrect. So as long as there are no visible clouds there will be no rain. That actually makes a lot of sense now.

Thanks

Are you saying that RA did not work, but -RA did? That is interesting. Did not think the weather engine was that "smart" to sort these things out. I am looking into something to inject METARS in P3D.
