• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

....to the new forum dedicated to Airport Design Editor. With the upcoming release of the Home Edition it is felt that the utility should have it's own forum rather than use the Scenery Design Engine Forum.

Airport Design Editor (ADE) is a graphical design tool to create and enhance airports for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It takes it's inspiration from the excellent AFCAD2 developed for FS9 by Lee Swordy. ADE does for FSX what AFCAD does for FS9 and adds support for new FSX features such as fences and jetways. ADE is being developed with the help of a small group of dedicated airport designers with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

ADE sets out to achieve two things in designing and enhancing airports. First to make the enhanced airport look good, and second to make it work properly. Airport design must address both aspects - the visible and the invisible. The design philosophy goes further in assisting users of all levels to get things right from the start. Error checking and 'common sense' are built in. At the same time it is important to allow users flexibility. There will therefore be two editions. The Home Field Edition for those users who want to enhance their local airport and the Pro Edition for those who want to make more complex enhancements

Let me also say welcome to everyone that will be using ADE Home Edition. We have many Team Members to help in the support of this forum and answer questions that will arise with the use of ADE.

ADE is a knowledge based Utility as much as a Design Utility. All the team members share in a common goal of futhering the knowledge of how FS9/FSX uses certain aspects of XML and Airplane user/AI traffic code as per the rules of FS.

Like Jon said our efforts are inspired by Lee Swordy's AFCAD2 program. Most if not all the Team Members were also part of Lee's efforts in the developement of AFCAD/AFCAD2 for FS2002/FS2004.

Jon brought together some of the most knowledgeable people into the design of ADE (see the Beta Team Members list) which most of you will recognize by name.

Stay tuned for some exciting times ahead.

Congratulations!

I know what went into this, a Herculean task!

I think now is the time to finally wean myself off of using AFCAD v2.21 as a design GUI. Some things are hard to do...

Jolly well done. Am having great fun with ADE. Unfortunately I cannot update to 1.02 as I get error messages which start saying that I have no application associated and then lines of stuff meaningless to me. What am I missing please?
