• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.

    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

What happend with this 3d grass?

Hi All, please could you help me with this, What is wrong with this 3d grass, when im in my plane and turn on the light at dusk or night happend this:

So What Im missing?, This was made by fsx gamepack, thanks in advance for your help..
 
Guess:

It has a night texture specified, but the file is not found or in the wrong format?
 
Hi, I already check the night teture but the same result, I made a darker texture for the night texture and its ok but when i pass the landing lights of the airplane over the grass it turns like black as seen above in the picture, please help me, what could it be?
 
Ah ok.

Unfortunately I suspect you are out of luck. Landing lights don't illuminate objects in this way.

The reason they are black is that only the ground is illuminated by them

Hi,
Grass doesn't turn black : grass remains black despite the taxi light
But terrain around is lightened by taxi light.
I guess this is FSX limitation
 
It's inherent in the FS engine.

Aircraft landing lights illuminate terrain, but not 3D objects. That includes your grass.

Ambient light in the sim will light the grass (daylight / moonlight) but not fx or landing lights. (at least from external views)

I know of no way around this.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies, I found the problem here, i checked the z-write slot in the material editor, just i un checked and all its ok, now i have a nice grass..;)
 
You may now have some transparency problems, however.

If they are not noticeable, then I guess it's a fair tradeoff.
 
I have this same problem with my grass... It may be a limitation in the fsx engine as ALain mentioned... fs9 did this too... the landing light also ignores any 8bit/4bit alpha and only shows it as a 1bit alpha, making the grass blades look odd if you designed them to have a softer gradual alpha... if fs9 it did that, and i assume its the same effect in fsx...

NOW, I noticed it shows proper alpha ok sometimes in VC and looks 1bit alpha through landing lights in spot/2D and tower views... NO idea why or how...
