• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

What is causing this?

Well, i thought I was nearly there with my first football ground scenery only now I've encountered another weird problem.
The texture on one side of the building looks all blurred, well like this...

Move slowly closer and it clears, move back again and it looks OK, like this..

Anyone know whats causing this and how to fix it?

BTW, I've just dumped the model at the BGLComp default location at Tacoma to see what happens if I compile it seperately outside of my scenery design prog.
It makes no difference.

You don't say what you used to build it.
I know there's been some long discussions here about this issue, but in my experience this is normally caused by me overlooking a polygon when it comes to texturing. For instance, in GMAX when I apply a boolean subtraction to a textures object, the new surface created has a very strange mapping -- sometimes the entire texture is repeated hundreds of times over the area, sometimes the mapping is just messed up. Either way if I forget to fix all these it affects performance enough to only show real small mipmaps.

Thanks Toprob

It was created in Gmax and I think i've found a fix/workaround using texture bitmaps without mipmaps. It seems theres a scaling problem and the map only changes to the correct one when you're really close up.
I was going to delete the thread, should have looked around a little before i posted.

Looks like some eXceLLent work all the same

I guess this problem is caused by a wrong texture scale in the MDL object. MakeMDL sometimes calculates this value wrong. Instead of removing mipmaps, you can also correct the texture scale, so that the correct mipmap is displayed. MDL Tweaker has an option to do this.

MDL tweaker won't load the MDL :(

It reports an error:

"Error in procedure timerPreview_Timer of Form frmPreview"

OK'ing the message causes it to reappear, I have to use Task Manager to exit MDL Tweaker.

Are you using the latest version? Else please sent me the MDL file, I thought I had fixed this bug :).

Er, no I wasn't using the latest version, I was using 250, now got 259.

I still get the error mesage but it will cancel away if the preview window isn't opne.

How do i use it to fix my texture problem then Arno, do I just press the Check Texture Size button?
Or do i have to enter some data myself?

Can you send me the MDL file, so that I can debug that error message?

What you have to do is go to the "Texture list" dialog and press the button to correct the texture sizes. After that you need to save the MDL file again. That should be all.

Why would you want to do that? The idea behind mipmaps is a good one, they allow a better performance. So it is a good practise to use them.

You can attach it here at the forum, or mail it to:

Hi Arno,

Thanks for the fix to mdlteaker, works lovely now.

I've uploaded my stadiums to AVSIM, seem to have been downloaded a few times :)
