• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Where does ADE copy the compiled files to?

Does ADE copy compiled files to the community folder on the drive where FS2020 is installed (eg D:\WpSystem\S-1-5-21-3005884429-703102537-2135364465-1001\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community) or to the community folder on the C: drive eg C:\users\'username'\appdata\local\packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community?

When I search the internet "where is the MSFS2020 community folder" I get answers that it is the one on the C: drive.

I feel that the folder on the C: drive maybe just 'mirrors' the real community folder.

My understanding is that you must copy the contents of the compiled package to the Community folder yourself.
as to location…
In STEAM mine is in V:\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Steam\MSFS\Community (something like that) and nothing to do with my profile path. That path I supplied when I installed MSFS. Was asked for a location. I hate stuff in the profile path and avoid it at all costs. You can’t tell what’s there. You have to back it all up etc…
With mine, I can simply isolate and backup the Community folder with too much effort.
Not sure of a store brought version though

Thanks Philip.
I always use ADE to copy the files to the community folder (after a build it displays
copy.jpg

And I select YES and it is then accessible within MSFS.

It's just with the Windows Store install I find a community folder at both locations mentioned above and the contents are the same.

I seem to have a problem with AIFI (AI flight plan creator) and when I mentioned that the community folder is on the C: drive I am told that is incorrect and so I just want to find out exactlt what happens and know that ADE will copy files to the 'community folder' whichever one that is.

Oh ok. Why don’t you try just renaming the on on C slightly at the end of the lowest folder name. It shouldn’t chuck an error because it’s not used. Did you ever install MSFS to c?

No I never installed to C: I still remember the days when it was suggested that due to UAC issues that FSX NOT be installed on the C: drive and I have kept on with that.
I have X-Plane installed on a separate drive and now FS2020 also installed on a separate drive.

The one on the C: drive is simply a reference to the one on your D: drive. They are one in the same. The actual file is located on the D: drive but everything references the C: drive.

In summary, it is my current experience that ADE copies the package to the Packages folder in the project file following the build. I no longer get the window popping up to copy to the community folder. Instead, Copy Package must be selected from the File drop-down menu to copy to the community folder within the WpSystem folder structure. My hat's off to Jon for making this work so simply using ADE.

The mention of AIFP for MSFS is a revelation to me. I didn't know about this development and must look into it.
