• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

which file formats can I open in FSDS?

I am able to use Google sketchup quite a bit easier, but I bought FSDS last week so I can create hard 'landable' platforms on ships and buildings. That siad, I get the impression that using FSDS is quite a bit more challenging for a non-expert modeler like me than is something more simple and basic like Sketchup.

I do have modelconverterX and I am able to get objects from google warehouse into FSX.

Is there any hope for something like me to to use sketchup in conjunction with FSDS?

Hi,

I don't think FSDS can read many formats. There is a plugin to read dxf files for example.

But if you just want a landable platform on your sketchup object, you can also do that in modelconverterx.

Rip- You might or might not have it, but look in parts data def to see if you have a hard surface attach point.

In FSDS try this: This is for experimentation.

1. Make a flat, square or rec surface. Any size will do.
2. Make a triangle- any size.
3. Place this triangle on the square.
4. reduce the triangle in size to where it sits inside the thin square.
5. Your triangle is still active... right-click in any pane on your screen and choose current item properties.
6. top of next screen cclick on 'Browse'
7. in the new window- top right, open the drop down menu. Right now it says FSX keyframe animation.
8. scroll down to find helo pads It might be concrete_0, _1, _2 etc.
9. choose one of those, maybe 0 or 1.
10. compile and put the square somewhere, maybe on water. Now.... go sit on it with your plane. Turn off slew. You will be sitting on a hard surface.
