• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi all,

I am using Windows 10 on my machine that I use to develop my tools. Regularly I get a notification that Windows 11 is ready for my machine, but until now I have hesitated to install it since Windows 10 works fine. How are the experiences of other developers with Windows 11? Do the FS design tools you regularly use work fine? Do older sims (like FSX) still work fine?

I switched to Windows 11 as soon as it was available, and I've not had a lot of problems. Notably, GMax doesn't work with it. I don't think FSDS works with it either.

I haven't noticed the transition at all. In fact, I still get surprised when I see a W11 update notice, because I think I'm still on 10.

Maybe it is because System Info says, "Version 10.0..." Also, FSDS works here, AI Boats Traffic Tool, AI Traffic Editor, AirWrench, DXTBmp...

This is not what you're asking Arno, but I'm about to run an upgrade to Windows 11 in the next few days. As a backup in case it all goes TITSUP (Totally Unable To Support Usual Performance), I've cloned my C: drive. Doing so would allow you to test everything on Windows 11 without worrying about something going [see above] 😄

Absolutely no issues here.

Dick, I don't use GMax but I do have it installed (I once had ambitions to use it!) and it appears to work ok on my system.

Edit: I have seen reports elsewhere that FS9 can be a bit temperamental on W11, but again I've had no problems that weren't also apparent in W10.

Hi Arno, I've been using Win 11 since April. No real big issues, but it takes a little tweaking. FS9, MCX, LIbrary Creator, ADE, SBuilder, Sketchup 8, Blender 2.79b, work ok with the following comments.
1) FS9 looks great in full screen mode, lots of jaggies in windowed mode. Probably fixable in graphics settings. Odd bug in full screen mode when you use the Alt key to bring up the sub menu first time is ok but after that sub menu disappears after a second or so.
2) Gmax does work but you need to run gmax resgistration work around. I have not tried exporting with the gamepack.
3) You need MSXML 4.0 sp3 to run bglcomp. You probably already have it so no worries there.

My GMax work-around was a bootable memory stick with Windows 10 and GMax on it. Dual bootable windows 11 and 10 also works for that.

Thanks for all the info. Guess I might update in the near future as well.
