• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Windsock animation ??

Hello everyone, I started to make/animate a simple windsock, the animation works OK in GMax, but FS9 takes it as an static object, no animation

I'll explain how I did the animation

1. Opened the FS2002 GMax gamepack
2. Selected the animated part of windsock in the mode "Editable Mesh Vertex"
3. Pressed the "Animate" button
4. Created the animated movements in the "Editable Mesh Vertex" mode and 3 keyframes
5. Renamed the animated object to "Tick18_Windsock"

Here is the gmax file with the animated windsock

http://uploading.com/files/4d6mfae3/windsock.gmax/

Help please

sub-object animation is not recognized in the FS compiling process.

You animate completed objects/parts, not the individual vertices.

Thank you Bill for your quick reply, and yes, you're right, I don't need to reinvent the wheel :D

I downloaded the file, but there's only 2 .mdl and 2 .bmp files, there's no .xml file to place the windsock in FS  what can I do in that case?

Thanks and sorry :o

Use Library Creator which is available in the download section of fsdeveloper.com and make your own object library. You can add more objects than only the windsock in it. Then use any placement program to place the object in your scenery like object placer also available here in the download section. I use Instant Scenery to place it direct in FSX (or FS2004) but it is payware.

Hope that helps.
Joerg

Alternatively, simply use ADE9X to place the windsock...

Hi Bill, I recently tried to add the windsock using ADE9x, but it failed

I'd have thought by now someone would have mentioned the idea of switching models based on wind strength using conditional display option in Arno's tool, CAT. With CAT, you can make a different model appear based on windspeed, and make the models orient to the wind.

At least my rusty old memory remembers it that way. Its been many years now.

Already solved with the ObPlacer

Thank you Joerg ;)

That would be MDL Tweaker that can switch models based on conditions. CAT is used to tweak animations.

But as suggested before, it is better to use the windsock from the download section. On that one I used some more complex ASM tweaking (that can't be done with the tools) to get ever better results.

Your windsock is excellent. I also make sure I include thanks to you in the Acknowledgements section of both the readme text files and the pdf manuals included with any of my scenery projects I have used it in. I also acknowledge your Library Creator XML and ModelConverterX which I use all the time.

Thank you for the great tools Arno!

Hi,

To get the credits right, I did the windsock together with Joerg and Jon. They made the model and the animations, I "only" tweaked the animation a bit to work with the wind.
