• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi,

In the toolbar at the top you find a button to enter the Edit mode. Once you have activated that you can type new XML code in the editor. Those changes are kept in memory while you work on the model. If you want to save them to a file you can use the Save ModelDef.xml button to do so. Be aware that the editor has an option to only show the used definitions, if you save with that option on, only the used ones are saved.

So if I make a change I have to export it? I've tried to use the save but when I try plane or reimport it the changes aren't there.

Hi,

It depends if you have to save the file. If you export your model to MDL again after changing some ModelDef.xml entry, the changes are part of your MDL file. In that case you won't have to save the modeldef.xml file. On import the right data is loaded from your MDL file.

Also MCX will always read the modeldef.xml from the path that you have specified in the options. So if you want MCX to load your changes modeldef.xml file you need to make sure that option points to the file you just changed.

Arno still no luck with the modeldefedotor. Everytime I add something then export come back and check it's not there, so for whatever reason the export isn't doing something right.
Is there away to open the modeldef with any other program you know of
Thanks
JT
rechecked my options and don't think it is set right see pic

It's just an xml file, so you can open it with any text editor.

Bu default MCX will only show the definitions that are used in your object. So it might be that filter that hides your change.
