• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Is it possible to......???

Hi All,

I just joined here so please be kind if the answer is obvious! ;-)

Anyway I have 2 different commercial sceneries that need some attention.

The first is from UK2000 and needs some objects correcting and updating, the other is Aerosoft (sim wings I think) and needs the apron parking adjusting (graphics as well as afcad) and new 'dirt' texture to add between the runway and taxiway/apron.

The question is how do I proceed to do this? I already tried to open the bgl's in ADE and it won't work.

Any advice at all welcome.

Well when you say ADE won't work what do you mean? That does not tell us anything - did you get an error message? Did ADE crash? or did nothing show up on the screen?

Hi Jon,

Thank you for the reply.

Firstly, this might have been misinterpreted as having a go at ADE itself. It isn't that way at all. It's just the one thing I found on the web that looked like it would do what I needed. It could very well be something I am doing as I only got the program this week!

Anyway, I am using FS2004 scenery that I would like to update and improve.

The error is 'failed to load MainForm.load data' and failed to load MainForm.loadfile'. Then nothing shows on the screen.

I have tried this with a number of .bgl files and the result is always the same. I am using version 1.47.07 of ADE.

Will ADE actually allow me to alter commercial scenery?

Thanks for the prompt support, I am impressed! :-)

There is generally no reason why ADE won't load any bgl file that has been created for FS9 or FSX provided that it is based on the SDK for BglComp.

Hi Jon,

Another Wiltshire resident I see ;-)

Anyway, do you have any idea as to why I get the error message that I do?

If it helps I am using xp sp3 with the latest updates, 2Gb ram and dual core 2.2Ghz AMD processor.

Thanks

It depends on the type of bgl. If it contains only ground images or buildings it won't be possible to load it directly into ADE. If it is an airport facilities file, it will be possible to open it in ADE.

Hi, everybody !

I tried to reproduce this error message, which happen when I try to open an object BGL file or VTP and exclude BGL files made with SBuilder, but not a scenery file, even those made with AFX (last versions of both softwares).

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the input so far people, nice of you to try and help me out here. :-)

I just thought that maybe if I could convert the bgl to xml I might have another route to the same finished result. So I downloaded BGL2XML and run that on the same files.

BGL2XML gives the error BGL ID 1 not correct on all the files I have tried.

Maybe this will help someone work out what is going on here?

Then the files are not compiled using BglComp and may well be created using older tools and techniques or perhaps contain only terrain elements as suggested above

Thanks for all the replies so far!

So then, let me put a new question to you all. How do I open and modify the files I have to get the results I would like?

Cheers

The only UK2000 files you can modify are the airport facilities files, the names usually start with AF.
