• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

GP line

I have the honour to invite Don,Roby,Tom and the rest for some barging on the
latest little prolem :)) Sorry ! I can't find the answer on the forum.

I am reworking 3 of my airports due to the possibility to create GP lines and now I have run into a new problem.
I don't see any lines at the main Apron in FSX . There are lines at the rest of Aprons but they vanish at some angles (heading) please see attachments.

I have a flattern covering the entire airport.

Thank's for your help.

Floda

Ground Polys (including lines) are always displayed at the elevation specified by the ARP - regardless of flatten elevation. That the polys disappear at certain angles is usually due to the ground elevation being slightly higher than the ARP elevation. (A millimeter or less can make a difference.)

That the lines display at any angle is confirmation that ADE_GP has correctly created the .asm file. The rest is up to FSX.

Please keep in mind that FSX has no "native" ground poly capability. We are fortunate that it processes FS8-style ground polys at all - if not perfectly - as evidenced by these symptoms.

I have experienced this and the only solution was to place an invisible GP polygon at the airport reference point.

Hi Floda and the others,

This is new to me. I never experienced this one. Sorry.
Is this happening close to your ARP or not?

I have mentioned the "poly near ARP" potential solution in the user manual.

It does not appear to be a requirement in the majority of cases. Since there is no explicit relationship between the various GP objects beyond certain triangles being adjacent to certain others, the "poly near ARP" appears to have some unknown effect on FSX. At this point we don't know what that effect is, or why. We also don't know whether it might be detrimental in other circumstances.

So, I would be very hesitant to recommend it as a general approach until we understand what specific problem it solves and how it solves that problem.

Hi friends of this forum.

Strarting with Don: I remeber what you wrote when my poly lines where 1 meter above the apron. At that time a flattern made it work and thats why I tried the same thing here but with no result.
Now you gave me a very good explanation wich I will keep in mind.
Thank's Don :)

Georg, I placed a thin line on the edge of the runway close to ARP and it works.
How could one find this trick, thats why we have the best forum.
Thank's Georg.:p

Tom, your idea (I wonder if ADE should do this as an option? ) is avery good idea. Invite Don for a Beer and he will fix it.
Thank's Tom.:o

Roby, thank you for your helpfulness. The main Apron is 1257 meter from ARP and the nearest apron lies 500m. from ARP.

Thank you Guys and have a nice weekend.

Hi,

I remember now that I had a problem of the kind when I had an ARP that happened to be on top of a flatten I had made with a different altitude.
Have you tried moving the ARP some distance away from where it is?

Hi Roby !

I was a little bit to optimistic when I saw the GP lines on the main apron.

When I changed hedings the lines vanished. I moved the ARP to the center of the airport and everything was OK. But I am not shure if this is the right thing
to do.
Lets see what Don and Jon think about this manaeuvre.

Dank U Wel for being so helpful.

Det var ett nöje (according to Google:)).
And I think that putting the ARP in the middle of the airport is a good idea because apparently it helps;).

Then the only reasonable idea I can come up with is to find out why it does not work for you, George, but does for Floda.

Keep in mind we are using FS2002 style BGL files here, which may have unexpected results in certain situations. We might just have to say "well, they just don't work here" in certain places. Also, they might not work the same way at different airports or for different people.

Hi all,

Well, I just want this program to work because it would be a nightmare for me if I were to have to use Gmax:(.
If we (I mean Don, in fact:)) want to find out why this works sometimes and sometimes does not, George, then he would need to have your ad3 workfile and Floda's.
(I found some more inexplicable things with the LFST file uploaded some time ago, but I will put this in another thread as it has to do with resizing).

Hi all of you ;)

I must admit my short coming in many things when it comes to building scenerys and that's why I have so many questions. I'm new on this forum and
I regret that I have waited so lonng.

My english sucks and that's why I have to use pictures (attachments).
So today my question is, do I use the right flattern ?

Roby,Tom, Georg stay cool, lets whait for Don and Tom the two musketeers.

Regards: Floda

I have just posted in the Gmax design forum in the hopes that one of the "gurus" can explain why this happens.
