• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Taxi Line to RWY not connected

Hi Jon!

Since the last update v1.65 5479 I have noticed that taxilines no longer are displaying as connected to runway center line in FSX. The turnoff lines are therefore no longer present. I have included two pictures. One is the setting for ADE showing correct connection taxiway to runway centerline. The other shows how this same intersection is being displayed now in FSX. The layers were centerline and taxiline at layer 05 and runway at layer 81. This issue is now true in all airports I have tested that have been modified since this update. AFCADS that were modified as ADE3 seem to still be displaying correctly. Also I notice that those runway layers are at 77 instead of 81 if that is any significance.

Hi Again!

I have isolated the issue. It seems that it is not the version but the texture of the runway that causes the phenomenon. Asphalt is layered at 77, concrete at 75, and both of these runway textures allow connection with the taxiways BUT bituminous runways are layered at 81 and do not allow taxiways to be connect to them! Now that I have discovered this I have not tested to see if it happened with AFCADS compiled with earlier versions. I noticed this in the South Pacific where, I guess, they use bituminous rather than asphalt for paving runways. Is this something you can address, Jon, or is it strictly an FSX issue that can't be remedied?

Layering of surfaces is controlled by FS. ADE layers merely mimic the order in FS. I am not an expert but certainly the width of runway links can have an effect. There was a change in 1.65 as to how links inherit but I don't think this changed the width or placement of runway links. This article describes the changes: https://scruffyduck.screenstepslive...l/200252-setting-taxi-link-default-properties If you are using New links inherit from last drawn then you might want to uncheck it and see if that changes anything. It will work only for newly added links after you make the change of course.

The absents of the center line and fillets is not the problem when using ADE. The problem is FSX and the type runway texture you have selected to use. Some textures such as bituminous (and others) will appear as if the taxiway node did not attach to the runway link line but it did. It is a draw problem with FSX. If you want the fillets you have to add them with small aprons the same as FSX does with some of their airports.

As a test to see the line and fillet, change the runway texture to asphalt or concrete

Thanks for the great info. My problem is specific to the fact that the taxi lines do not link to the runway if the runway surface is bituminous (an FSX anomaly). I was unaware of the new facility for inherited taxiline properties that has now been implemented. Most FSX default AFCADS do not have taxi lighting and when I have upgraded them, I have gone through the arduous task of modifying each link one at a time. Of course I am aware that setting default properties would still only apply to newly drawn links. Still no way to universally change all that are already present.

@Jim

I had come to the same conclusion that it was texture related. The absence of fillets was not the big issue, but rather that the turn-off lines no longer were appearing on the runways. Very helpful for low visibility landings, particularly at night. My solution, as you suggested, is to change the texture to asphalt which looks similar in FSX but allows the taxi lines to link properly. Thanks for your reply.

I have gone through the arduous task of modifying each link one at a time.
List the links then multi-select and edit. Or, select a link then <Shift> select the other links and press <Return>.

@ George

That feature is awesome. I have been only using features that I had used in previous older versions. I guess I better get up to date by reading the manual! Never knew all this was now available. Truly impressive to say the least. Thank you all.

Don't know where to post this, but, I can't get any taxiways to connect to the runways. I'm creating an airport from scratch. when I draw a taxiway, it appears under the runway and/or parking spots and will not under any circumstances connect to the runways or spots. I've tried for hours trying to get them to work, but nothing I do makes it work. I don't know if it's a problem with ADE itself, or if it has something to do with me running windows 11. I was able to create 1 airport directly after installing ADE. but that was the only one that ever worked correctly, since then, this taxi problem has persisted. My airport is AGL, I included the exclusion poly, everything I am supposed to do, I have done, but still cannot connect any taxis to the runway or spots. I'm stumped. Should I just uninstall ADE and re-install it, or should I just drop down to a older version of ADE. I'm currently using 1.79. Or am I just out of luck running on Windows 11?

Win 11 should not matter. I am not clear what you are doing to connect a taxilink to a runway or parking spot. Can you provide some steps and screenshots please. There is an internal drawing order in ADE which should draw taxi links over runways and parking spots.

Ok, I don't have screenshots or files or anything at this stage, but I am using the same drawing order I have always used, (input airport information such as names and coordinates, draw my exclusion poly, add runway, add runway starts, add markings or whatever is needed for the runway, add my RAMp, then draw my taxiway link) It used to work flawlessly but for some odd reason that last part just don't want to work anymore. My taxis always wind up UNDER the runway and will not connect to the runway. I just can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I've always used this same method with no problems, it just started being a problem recently.

I've tried all of the above mentioned from changing the surface texture to completely uninstalling and re-installing ADE. checked all of the settings and done everything mentioned above, I even deleted the airport I was working on and started over, still I am unable to connect the taxi links to the runway, I also noticed that I am not seeing the center line on the runway, nor am I seeing any of the runway markings. I have no idea what is going on with this thing. I never had this much trouble in the past when working with ADE, way back when I had Windows 7, never any headaches, but now with windows 11, WOW! What a mess, never tried it with Windows 10, I've been out of the Sim scene for a while, just now getting back into it. I've created many airports in the past, I still have a couple of them and they still work (minus the objects which I no longer have) perfectly. But now, creating a new scratch airport, it's getting really frustrating.

OK, after several hours of fiddling with this thing, I finally caught my problem. I was forgetting two IMPORTANT steps when creating new airports from scratch, 1. I forgot to creat my TAXI LINKS first 2. I forgot the create my RUNWAY LINKS second, then add my parking spots and connect each one to the taxi links. It was those two crucial steps that prevented me from connecting the runways. I was trying to directly connect the ramps to the runway with taxi links, forgetting to add the links themselves. It works now. You have to do the links first before anything else or it will not work. Wow, took me forever in a day to figure out what I was doing wrong. I thought I had remembered everything I did years back, but I guess I forgot about those two steps. I figured it out by reading some of the helpful hints you people kept giving to others with similar problems. Glad I signed up to this site, it sure helps, doubt I would have ever figured it out without help from here. thanks a bunch people. I know where to come now to get help.

Now, I still have one other problem, I want to add some CUSTOM made signs to my airport. I made the signs using Photoshop and converting them to Wavefront .obj files, but... I can't figure out how to make those .OBJ files into .MDL files to be converted to .BGL files to use in ADE and have ADE compile those objects into the airport. I did it years back, but most of the software I had back then is lost and no longer available. does anyone have any ideas on how I could take my new signs created with Photoshop and add them to ADE to be used as objects in airports or do I need to learn how to use some complicated drawing software?
