• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Adding ground photo.bgl to an airport

I'd like to add some photo ground to several freeware airports. I'm using MSE and want to improve how the airports blend with the PS.

I discovered Sbuilder and watched a video on how to use the image to line up objects at the airport with ADE, but not how to save the photo as a .bgl to add to an airport scenery.

Which version of SBuilder do I need for P3D v4.5HF1? So far the one that I downloaded has errors.

What is the fastest way to do this?

Thanks in advance.

I'm starting to think that I need to re-install FSX in order to get SbuilderX to work. Anyone?

Please explain what you refer to by "MSE" and "PS". :scratchch

Do you want to add a background "Image" to use as a positioning guide in ADE ?

Or do you instead want to make:

* custom photo-real imagery terrain textures that drape onto terrain mesh

...versus:

* custom photo-real imagery terrain textures that are mapped onto a flat 3D object placed above terrain mesh (Ground Polygon)

Use rhumbaflappy's ZIP-ed "Full" install of SBuilderX version 3.15, and use either P3Dv1.4x or P3Dv4.5x SDK ...as cited in these threads

Thanks Gary.

I really appreciate your help. At first the goal is to just add the jpeg using ADE to line up all the objects.

Next, I'd like to learn how to add the photo under the airport as a .bgl

Some of the freeware airports were not designed for MSE FL (Mega Scenery Earth FL) so I was hoping to add the photo under the airport.

PS means photo scenery. Sorry for the confusion.

I know this can be done because one of the freeware does have photo bellow the airport. In that case I had to disable it to make the airport blend better with MSE FL.

Hi again:

These threads should contain pertinent general info on the ADE > Add > Image procedure:

I prefer that airports be sized / shaped / positioned correct to the real world, so I emphasize use of imagery in the correct GIS "projection":

Let us know when you are ready to add higher resolution imagery than that provided by MegaScenery Earth FL by opening new threads. :)

Hi GaryGB,

I finally managed to learn how to use the latest Sbuilder to locateand download photo imagery, create the map, and successfully compile to a photo.bgl for the base of my airports, but as always there are still some growing pains.

For example, I created the base photo for airport X05 and fixed the airport layout with ADE but when I load the scenery I have a large area of AG that is eliminated due to the added photo.bgl and some texture bleed through. There seems to be a conflict with the MSE FL photo and the photo.bgl that I compiled and added to my X05 Scenery folder. Maybe I need to take some actions to ensure that both photos work together. Are there any additional things I should know?

I have another option at X05. To keep the airport without the photo.bgl that I created, but the MSL FL has added AG textures that are causing some trees to show up in the runway. Is there a way to create an AG exclusion for the photo scenery AG to exclude AG at X05 airport?

Both methods are challenging, but I'm willing to learn.

Thanks.
Jose
