• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.

hi guys i am trying to convert some aircraft for my own p3dv4 use. but i keep getting different issues with model converter x. when i try to export aircraft from the sim objects section it says no permission to write in folder. and when i try to use export from desktop i keep getting
15:29 MdlXWriter Error Failed to locate Prepar3Dv4 XtoMDL, please update the path in the options.
is there anyway i can solve this problem?

Hi,

The first error probably means you don't have write access in that folder. If you have installed the simulator in the program files folder that is a common issue.

The second error is that the XtoMDL tool from the SDK is not found. Did you install the P3D v4 SDK on your machine? If you have it installed MCX should find the tools automatically. But you can also set the paths manually in the options.

ive just installed the sdk today.
should i move p3d to another folder? or uninstall it and reinstall it somewhere else?

You might need to run MCX as admin to have write permissions there. Or just export the mdl to a different folder and then copy it over.

You would have to check if the xtomdl you use is 32 or 64 bit. But it does not hurt to install both.

now this is not much of a mcx issue but a p3d issue. mcx is working just fine now but when i open the aircraft list in the scenario menu on p3dv4, it doesn't show the converted aircraft. what do i do?

I'm afraid I can't help with that, I am not really an aircraft developer myself. Hopefully somebody else can give some tips.

Check the mdl file name is the same as that in the model.cfg within the model folder of your converted aircraft.

And check that the model= line in the aircraft.cfg file points to the model folder containing that converted aircraft and proper model.cfg file.

If the model folder name is "model", then the line should be model=

If the model folder name is model.GE, then the line should be model=GE

And so on.

I think noone can answer your question since from the post.
Cant even know what file name you saved the modified model.
We can't see anything inside your PC so better mind about the readers when post.

The point is all written above.
Aircraft.cfg's model= line points which model folder to be used on that plane. (If nothing written it's just "model" folder)
And inside the pointed folder , there is model.cfg and normal= should point the MDL file to be used.
MDL files should be in same folder as model.cfg

Strange things on the screenshot is at the 1st error screen it says model is Trident's VC
But on the screenshot above it's saying HJG's737-300
Can't know and understand what you really wanted to do.

i managed to convert the tridents. its just the 737-300 im trying to convert now. they convert fine, but they dont appear on the aircraft list

So how is the filename and the folder ?
I told you can't see inside your PC.
Can't give any advice from this small amount of info.

the MDL file name is hjg 737-300 and the cfg folder is called model. i tried changing the name but it didnt work
