• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Vista 64-3ds max 9-Aces Toolset trouble

I posted an answer to this in yor thread at FFDS. Try putting a slash at the end of your path name on Max config i.e. '\' This works for me..... nothing else to do to make it work. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling...

3DS Max 9 64-bit supported by FSX SDK?

The FSX SDK tooks only work with the 32 bit version of Max 9. However Max 9 32 works fine in Vista 64. You can install Max 9 64 along side Max 9 32 to use with projects that do not require the FSX SDK tools.

3DS Max 9 64-bit supported by FSX SDK?

The Max 9 DVD contains both the 64 32 bit versions. I've found that both can be installed and on the same HD. I use Max 9 32 bit for FSX and 64 bit for rendering projects.

Modeling SDK: Plugins for 64 bit version of 3DS Max

The current FSX SDK plugins for 3DS Max 9 appear only to be for the 32 bit version of 3DS Max. This surprises me as both the 32 & 64 bit versions of 3DS Max 9 come on the same cd and I presume many people would like to make use of the 64-bit version's extra capabilities. These are very useful if...

3DS Max 9 64-bit supported by FSX SDK?

I've installed 3DS Max 9 64-bit version on Vista 64. The SDK 3DS Max 9.0 plugins do not appear to work with the 64-bit version of Max 9.0. Has anyone else had the same experience? It looks as if the SDK only contains the plugins for the 32 bit version. If that is correct then I'm very...

    XtoMdl vertex limit problems...

The answer...... No need to speculate any further. Adrian Woods (Torgo 3000) explains why this problem occurs, in his blog. http://blogs.technet.com/torgo3000/archive/2008/01/24/let-s-blow-up-the-exporter-real-good.aspx This makes sense. The first test I conducted a while back involved...

    Fde Editor

Airwrench is a useful tool. However one cannot edit individual records or tables in the airfile with it to further tweak and adjust. Also one cannot use Airwrench for commercial work...only freeware. I use AAM or AirEd to adjust. Once I'm up to speed on airfile creation I hope to just use...

    Blender to FSX MDL import/export

I realise I'm digressing a bit...there's some great work produced with Blender e.g. Marek Rys aviation work. http://www.military-meshes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2187 It's worth perusing the whole thread....not exactly low poly modeling, but great work nonetheless.

    XtoMdl vertex limit problems...

Yep you guys are correct. I've just carried out my own test and verified that limit. :( I have received a vertex buffer exceeded warning on a few occasions in the past, however the aircraft compiled correctly on these occasions. Interestingly a mesh that would not compile using FS2004's...

Prop. disc see through cloud after Acceleration upgrade

That's because you are using FSDS 2.0 which does not output FSX aircraft. Only aircraft complied with FSX SDK tools dsiplay correcly in FSX. You have to use FSDS 3.5 or gmax/3DS max with the FSX SDK tools to create FSX aircraft. Animations such as props & wheels have to be keyframed to work...

    XtoMdl vertex limit problems...

You're possibly confusing vertices per object within a 3DS Max scene with total vertices per scene. Back when I used to model for CFS3 I encountered a similar problem with its exporter. If a single object (part) within a scene exceeds 64k vertices the model would not export. Making sure that...

Once GMAX is gone, then what?

It may be possible to use other applications combined with information in the SDK - eg XSI Mod tool http://adventuresinmodelling.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!F69D8AE6E50B9F8E!166.entry
