• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    MSFS24 bridges and simobjects

Hi Pat: I just installed and flew in MSFS 2024 at the Lorient Railroad Bridge. I can also taxi an aircraft over the bridge without falling through. Just before I began my taxi over the bridge, your (pre-programmed ?) train came across the bridge semi-partially submerged, and 'bounced' up onto...

    MSFS24 bridges and simobjects

Hi Pat: I do not see in MCX Attached Object Editor, a Platform with a Road Material attribute associated with the Lorient Railroad bridge in question above. I shall study this further to ID status of the Ground tag, and will test this scenery in both MSFS 2020 and 2024. Thanks again for...

    MSFS24 bridges and simobjects

Hi Pat: I started researching what ended up in the MSFS 2024 SDK docs regarding the "Ground" Tag. Thus far is have found this: https://docs.flightsimulator.com/msfs2024/html/2_DevMode/Material_Editor/The_Material_Editor.htm In your web browser, search the above linked MSFS SDK Doc web page...

MSFS24 How to make a scenery acceptable ?

I am not yet very familiar with the many features available in Blender, but anticipate SimPropContainer modeling source objects may be made easier in 3D modeling software such as Blender via Parent / Child objects, and in Sketchup via Components / Groups. If your choice of 3D modeling...

MSFS20 Custom aerial texture below the default one

Tomorrow (Wednesday) I plan to test CGLDEC on the CGL file to see if I can extract Geographic coordinates. We'll compare notes then. :) PS: I can confirm France's LIDAR HD elevation data is immediately available for download in tiles via their web portal. I have not yet looked at what...

MCX MCX Attached Object Platform "Ground" Tag Update

Hi Arno: I wanted to check if MCX has yet been updated to enable Platforms for MSFS that do not allow "fall through". Apparently the code used for bridges has been implemented in SU3 to fix 2024 if a new "Ground" Tag is applied, but does not fix 2020...

    MSFS24 bridges and simobjects

Hi again: I just did a Google search and found this: https://devsupport.flightsimulator.com/t/erratic-behavior-of-simobjects-on-collision-meshes/10355 It looks like "Collision" attributes are gaining an expanded role in MSFS 2024. Apparently I had an (incorrect) impression it was already in...

    MSFS24 bridges and simobjects

Hi Pat: Thanks for sharing your insight with this interesting MSFS option. :) Please take your time with a reply in the form of a tutorial to what I feel will be a substantial interest in your fascinating project. It is intriguing to read: :scratchch "the MSFS 2024 SimObjects/trains fall...

MCX MCX Toggle DirectX versus OpenGL Normals

Hi Arno: I recently posted a link to info cited by Google AI in response to a query I made seeking a quicker / easier way to toggle Normal types using MCX. https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/normal-map-conversion-opengl-to-directx.456523/post-940070 Regarding the linked Google search...

MSFS20 Custom aerial texture below the default one

Hi Luc: To be clear, the description I gave above was only intended to identify the fact that your scenery was rendering in ways Asobo already cited. It was of course, not intended as a reflection on anything you may have done / not done while following MSFS SDK methods (that have 'issues')...

MSFS24 How to make a scenery acceptable ?

Hi Rob: That is certainly a helpful part of the documentation to be considered. It was interesting to read what I believe may be new info, in the inferred disclaimer Asobo included on that web page: "SCENERY LODs NOTE: Due to the addition of SimPropContainers to the simulation, this page is...

    MSFS24 bridges and simobjects

Hello: This sounds like an interesting scenario, and I believe a number of us here would welcome an opportunity to learn how you do this. We would be grateful for any tutorial you might post here when you get some time free, that explains your workflow. :) I believe we would want to identify...

MSFS20 Problem with flickering textures and transparency through model (MSFS2020)

Indeed, we are fortunate to have MCX made available to us through Arno's generous efforts over the years. :wizard: I had checked the mapped texture Material settings sliders in Sketchup Materials list via the 'In Model' mode, and they already had an "Opaque" attribute rather than...

MSFS20 Custom aerial texture below the default one

Hi Luc: Your package does show nearly all of the anomalies Asobo alluded to in posts at MSDevSupport forum. I plan to derive Geographic coordinates for the aerial imagery areas involved, and do some tests to verify what factors impact rendering in the project area, to see what may be done with...

MSFS20 Custom aerial texture below the default one

Hi Juc: I do have the download; it's transferring over my network to my MSFS 2020 installation and \Community folder for inspection. I may be able to offer some feedback within an hour or so. :coffee: Thanks for providing a worked example to explore options for troubleshooting and potential...

MSFS20 Problem with flickering textures and transparency through model (MSFS2020)

I figured you might be short on time, and will shift my replies to the MCX MSFS glTF export process. ;) If Cleanup3 is done and all textures display acceptably in MSFS to allow you enough time, I certainly will convey the files. Then I'll ZIP the MCX MSFS SDK glTF output after testing; I can...

MSFS20 Problem with flickering textures and transparency through model (MSFS2020)

I just cleaned them up in minutes via thomthom's Cleanup3 plugin; very much more manageable in Sketchup workspace now. Speaking of "smooth", thomthom's QuadFace Tools plugin makes the concrete support beam 'boots' for the porch look great...

MSFS20 Problem with flickering textures and transparency through model (MSFS2020)

I just ran thomthom's Cleanup3 plugin on the porch furniture. Each was Grouped individually in TopDown View via Left Mouse Hold > Drag-Selection-Rectangle > Right-click > Make Group. Here is the results for the 2-seater 'couch': ;) Cleanup Statistics: > Edges Reduced: 859 > Faces Reduced...

MSFS20 Problem with flickering textures and transparency through model (MSFS2020)

Triangulation is mostly fixed by use of thomthom's Cleanup3; some remaining Edges must be manually fixed with Push-Pull, Delete. If you have not yet registered for the Sketchucation Store (even for free downloads), they are good folks and do not spam you etc.. I just ran thomthom's Cleanup3...
