• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX A little project from downunder

Hi everyone

I'm an amateur developer from New Zealand currently learning how to develop sceneries for FSX/P3D. I've just finished my first little project the new Christchurch airport control tower (http://www.hawkins.co.nz/projects/christchurch-airport-control-tower). This certainly wouldn't have been possible without having access to the wealth of resources and knowledge available here so a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to our awesome community.

BTW the model is available on AVSIM if any of you want to check it out. Enjoy :)

Jack

Thanks for this. Are you using ORBX FTX NZ?

Would love to see a good NZCH come available, something compatible with ORBX FTX NZ.

Yes I use Orbx NZ.

I would also love to see a good NZCH. Sadly good quality intl airports are sorely lacking for NZ. We really need a decent NZAA (now a major hub for 77ws and A380s), NZCH and NZWN. Hope my little work will get more people interested in NZ :)

No problem. I actually have been thinking about creating a Christchurch scenery. Maybe you could help me.

I would love to but I'm not sure how much help I can be at this stage. I'm more or less a beginner myself and the only thing I know how to do now is making 3D models. I don't know how to do the photo underlay and ground poly yet so I'm still a long way away from being able to make a complete airport scenery on my own. Having said that you should absolutely try and create Christchurch or any other scenery that you desire. If I can't help I'm sure there are plenty of others here who can and will!

Well the little that you know might go a long way lol. I really think NZ needs some scenery in the fs world. Being that you are from NZ, I wanted to work with someone like you. What software do you use for your modeling? Christchurch airport is a beautiful airport. It's a shame no one has done it up to this point.

I'm aware of various parties developing Christchurch and Auckland but I'm not personally involved in those projects so can't really comment. But the fact remains we do not have any high quality version for either up to now so I guess it's anyone's game. (and speaking of Christchurch I haven't actually been there since 2007ish so I modelled the tower entirely from photos found on the net... cheating you say!)

I use Sketchup and Blender for modelling and Photoshop for textures. What softwares do you use?

I am a beginner as well, but I am really not very good at 3D object design -- just a few basic buildings is about the best I can do.

That said, I do know how to do the photo underlay and ground poly, or at least some version of it. I like to do a very minimal amount of photoreal and allow the LC textures to show to thru as much as possible, in order to take advantage of the seasonal changes. It would blend well with FTX NZ SI from ORBX, I promise you that. I could take a crack at it and send it over if you like. If you like it, great, use it. If not, then you have a good placeholder while you find something that works better.

Hi that's an incredibly generous offer! If it's not too much trouble of course I would love to have it. Any idea where/which airport you might like to have your first crack?
