• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Adding Aircraft from Library - Alpha 17

I have been working on a continuing project to discover the features and methods to be used for MSFS and ADE.
I have been trying to add various Library Objects to create a scene that shows what appears to display.

My most recent attempt seems to have some issues with various available Library Objects.
Mostly my attempts to add static Asobo aircraft have fallen short. The sample shows that a Cessna was added (others behave the same way; i.e., do not show)
I have attached a zip file of the entire project folder.

Perhaps someone can steer me in the proper direction?

You have to add a simobject as the Asobo library models don't work.

I assume then that as there are no aircraft listed in the "Add Sim Object" form then we will have to wait for any built-in static aircraft scenery objects to be made available.
Thanks for the clarification.

Hi Darryl:

IIRC, there are default MSFS-2020 airports (and MSFS-2020 add-on airports) which have "static" aircraft displayed at run time.

What I have not checked yet is, whether these default (or add-on) aircraft are all SimObjects that are displayed as scheduled A.I. Traffic objects.:scratchch

IIRC, in pre-MSFS-2020 we could schedule A.I. Traffic objects so that they would display as "static" aircraft at run time for up to a week at a time; but they eventually had to move and "fly" a track at least once weekly in order to comply with requirements with the FS2Kx SDK A.I. Traffic sub-system (...I never use A.I. Traffic so I have no knowledge of how all that works).

I hope Jon and/or others might elaborate on this option in MSFS-2020, and whether it can be added/configured via ADE_20 Alpha version. ;)

Observations:
I just tried several more (actually all of the ones listed) of the Sim Objects.
To my amazement most of them are animated and drive along a straight line slowly.
Most animals stand around making nice little dancing steps but do not move (Would make a nice little zoo scenery).
Most of the vehicles that I inserted started moving when the sim was started. (Is that an expected state?)
I did not see anything, so far, that I could change to tell them to stay where they are.
The fuel trucks do not show. Maybe they are always hidden unless called by the sim like the tugs and pushbacks as they also did not display for me?

None of the boats/ships showed up and the hippo might prefer water as it did not show ?

The flamingo and goose showed as if they were in flying mode with fluttering wings but they did not move anywhere.

Hi again:

I have not had time to study this aspect of MSFS-2020 SimObject placement / use, but perhaps this thread may be helpful:

BTW: For the LivingWorld engine in FSX we could preview which SimObjects were animated by viewing them in MCX; there is a "Play" button and a elapsed duration track bar which moves as the animation extent of the 3D model is played in MCX preview mode.

The FSX LivingWorld engine allowed us to define a 'track' along which the animated SimObjects would move.

I hope this might also prove to be another option for use in MSFS-2020. :)

Adding sim objects is very basic in ADE. if you know where the sim object is or can find one then you can probably do this workaround

  • Add any Sim Object from the stock list
  • Use Ctri+Enter to open the property grid

Change the container title to match the sim object you want and see if it will build. The sim seems only to need the container title in most cases and you can edit it.

I don't know how to control the animation either but perhaps this can be added into ADE once I get my head around it

Here's a list of SimObjects, from Steam standard MSFS, with all updates and default addons as of today... You should be able to substitute these into the Container Title as Jon notes above.

Thanks Dick I have updated ADE with the missing ones that are on your list

Hi Jon:

Could you make the Container Title field 'linked' to inherit a currently selected SimObject from the Parent Name field ? :scratchch

This may help avoid typos etc. while making the process easier ...before end users 'commit' a final choice via [Apply] / [OK].

Thanks in advance for considering this as a possible ADE feature enhancement. :)

Hi,
Now I am confused, what is meant by Add OBjects? Add them into the ADE-Airport? That is not working with me, no show. Or should things be addded to the Obkect Library, althought they are already there. What is Container? At what spot do I get that properties-window.
I would appreciate very much if someone could write a document describing step by step of how to make a static model from the existing objects (pilotable aircraft) and then the adding to the liubrary.
That would help me out as a total overview of the now offered partial solutions.

Just getting back after a while.
I had tried with absolutely no luck to have Asobo aircraft placed as SimObjects appear in my scenery project.

I then decided to start all over. I installed Alpha17 by itself and using a different stock airport. I then proceeded to make small changes and test as I went.
Everything seemed to go as planned.
I then added SimObjects:
1) Windsock [Worked]
2) Added SimObject and then altered it to use one of the aircraft in the list provided . [ Worked !!]
3) Added another aircraft. [Worked]

I then copied the project folder back into the older upgraded Alpha17 build.
I then opened and ran Build followed by a copy.
Opened MSFS and the aircraft were there.

I must now come to the conclusion that somehow my old project that had begun in a previous Alpha build no longer functions in its present state.
I will try a rebuild from scratch to see if that works better.

Windsock and 2 SimObject default Asobo aircraft (152 & 172) as a newly created project :

Hi,
What program isd Alpha 17? I am with ADE
Application 20.12.7669.15072
Engine 20.00.7669.15068
Putting objects like Hangars, Tower, windsocks from the default libraries of ADE works fine, they show up.
Putting aircraft (Like Dash8) out of that same library on my airfield works initially fine, the object is visible in ADE, I can edit it, heading, altitude, pith etc. ADE compiles without problem.
However, in MSFS the aircraft do not show up.
Therefore I was asking for a kind of document that describes step by step how to convert, add to libraries etc default or add-on pilotable aircraft into static objects. The short hints as given above were confusing to me.

You appear to be using ADE alpha 12. The current alpha is alpha 17 which has the function to place sim objects. ADE 2020 is an alpha development program which is updated regularly. This is the link to the current alpha. MSFS - ADE 2020 Alpha 17 Released | FSDeveloper

I am sorry that the documentation is limited but that is because we are in development. I am hoping to get a new alpha out in some few days times which might make adding simobject aircraft easier. Also there are pdf notes with each alpha release.

Jon,
I installed Alpha 17, opened the stored apf , the airport opened. Then click on planned spot, add/library object/scroll down the All objects categorie, (Showed 2235 objects) select B7478i, click on ADD. Then the objectspot was indicated on the apron. Clicking on that I could edit the object, e.g. I changed the heading, nothing else. Then Save Project and Build project. and Build File. Then I moved the resulting airport-folder in the sub-folder Packages into the Community-folder. Then starting MSFS and the airport showed up BUT NO B747 ON THAT SPOT, A remark: all airplanes do not have a thumbnail, whereas all other objects, buildings, markers et have thumbnails. And the hangars, tower, windsock, other buildings, they all show up.
What can I do? Wait for the new release? Will that be announced as post on this category?
Piet

The Asobo library object planes are defective. They don't show in the sim, so they have no thumbnails. Don't use them. Use SimObjects to place planes.

I hope to release alpha 18 by the weekend. There will be a post at the top of this forum when it is available. I would suggest you wait for that and we can easier walk you through getting static aircraft at your airport
