• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Adding boundary fence

I am trying to add fencing around some areas of the airport and noticed two things - 1) the buttons below the menu list in the ADE window for adding fence do not work. I can add the fence but it does not show up in MSFS. - 2) when I try to add the fence via Library Objects, I selected "Fence Grilling02 Green High" for which the 'Add Library Object' dialog box shows a length of 74.9 ft. But after adding the item I used the Guide Line tool to measure the length and it shows it to be only 11 ft. And I have to add about 150 ft of fence so do I need to add multiple copies of this library object?

Yeah, I think library objects is the only option in MSFS unless you make your own models. The footprints of objects in ADE do not always represent the object, so placement to form a fence takes some getting use to.

It is probably better to use two way editing and place objects in Dev View. Footprints are taken from the object projected onto the ground (at least that is how I think Arno's code does it) It is therefor possible that the generated footprint is different than what you see. Light poles are a good example where they generate a triangular footprint which probably represents ground glow or similar. These can be placed accurately in Dev Mode since they show as the object is visually

Actually, after learning the direction they face, I don't have an issue with the lights except they cover-up everything else and have to be hidden. They like many other objects have a side view as a footprint, (but the red dot in the center indicates the exact location.

OK thanks. I will try using the Two-way Edit although I am still struggling to learn the dev mode. Will try to find a good video on YouTube if available.
