• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Adding new gps approach

Hello, I am currently working on my IFR rating in Canada and using FSX with a Cirrus SR22 from eaglesoft. My home base is CYBW (Calgary Springbank) and I would like to add a new gps approach. I am experiencing several road blocks one of which is where to find the gps terminal waypoint coordinates for the approaches that I want to add. I have tried some of the links in the manual and on internet but no joy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am also anticipating challenges as to how to get the new approaches to show up in FSX so any guidance here would be greatly appreciated.

In this case I am wanting to add RNAV 34 which is currently 35 in real life due to magnetic variation.

thanks, Ken

Hi and welcome but we need a bit more detail - do you want to add a GPS Approach to CYBW? If so which runway etc etc

I just realized that I can reference the coordinates from Jeppesen Flightstar one at a time so if no other ways I can do it that way. The next question is how to get the approach to show in fsx.

What tool or application are you using? If you are using ADE then it should be quite straight forward

I was able to open a stock airport and save it as CYBW_ADEX_KK.BGL and add an RNAV approach (not sure if it is correct but it should be close if not bang on). I have compiled it and it saved the .bgl file under the following path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X. I opened FSX and loaded the airport and tried to load the procedure in the gps but now no procedures will show up. not even the old ones....have removed the ADE created file and still can't get the old approaches to show on the GPS (SR22 by eaglesoft - not sure if this is part of the reason). Feel like I'm losing ground here. At minimum would really like to get the old approaches back at least. Maybe I should look at paying someone to create what I require....but wanted to take a run at it myself first. Any advice would be appreciated...

I am not sure what lelse may be happening but if you want your Bgl file to be active you need to put it into the Addon Scenery\scenery folder so c:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery\scenery.

I'll try it there and see what happens. Is it recognized automatically or do I need to work some settings?

On another note can I assume that if I want to have my new approach show in the stock airport I could import it? Obviously backing up the original first....
Gotta tell you....your software is an amazing feat of development. Put together very well. Great job. If I feel like I'm running out of time and want to offer to pay someone do I just list it under project recruiting?

Thanks, Ken

Hi Ken

Attached is a master .ad3 project file for your airport. Always work with the .ad3 file and compile to a bgl. Never work with the bgl.

Compile to the Addon Scenery\Scenery folder and the RNAV should show on the GPS like my picture shows.

have removed the ADE created file and still can't get the old approaches to show on the GPS (SR22 by eaglesoft - not sure if this is part of the reason).

I am not sure what old approaches you are talking about, The stock FSX CYBW does not have any approaches listed. If you have a file that has additional approaches then attach so I can see it.

In between posts I was able to get my compiled bgl to come up in the fsx gps after copying to the add on scenery folder. AND IT WORKED! I noticed in the file you sent me the missed approach segments were handled better so I am now using your corrected version. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I could have sworn there were approached for CYBW before (I reloaded a new stock airport file and there were none), with all the learning curve of getting IFR and learning ADE I guess my brain is drained. Many apologies for the confusion. I'll be adding a couple more new approaches for CYBW and my goal is to leave you out of it! I'll send in a donation for your help. Thanks, Ken:wave:

Thanks Ken and I am please it is working now :)
