• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE 1.78 Question

Hi, I'm using ADE 1.78 with FSX Steam. I'm not seeing all of the scenery objects that are listed but can't figure why. I know some of them (Edwards and NASA) are location preferenced and it's hard to get them to show in out of area scenery. But others, like the static planes (F-18, helicopters, balloons, etc) don't show though I can add them to the scenery with no problem. Where do these objects come from and where do they reside? Any tips on getting them to show is appreciated.

Please explain more clearly what it is that you are attempting to do.

* Are you wanting to place objects in scenery from default FSX-SE airports that have "Geo-locked" 3D models ?

If so, you may have to first remove those 3D models from the XML code that "Geo-locked" them.

Don Grovestine (R.I.P.) wrote a utility that can do this:

* If this is not what actually you are attempting to do, please explain further.

PS: You may wish to use the last updated 1.79 version of ADE for FS9 / FSX / P3D:

Some are geo locked while others are not such as the static planes.helicopters. some buildings they just don't show in the scenery that I add them to

Most of them are in the library files 'vehicles_Aircraft.bgl' or 'airport_objects.bgl', and accessible via the Library Object Manager or the dialogue 'Add\Library Object'.

Are you placing them with the FSX 'Scenery Complexity' slider set so that they are forced to show at all times ?

FSX Menu > Settings > Custom > {Scenery} tab > Scenery Objects > Scenery Complexity: Extremely Dense

Also, be aware that some airport scenery will have ExclusionRectangles on the ground that may exclude scenery library objects.

Enable display of Excludes so they can be seen in the GUI workspace.

ADE Menu > View > check: Exclusions

Do not attempt to 'place' scenery library objects over ExclusionRectangles.

You can usually place scenery objects over exclude rectangles - that’s the standard way to update default airports. But the object placement BGL file must be in the same folder as the exclude files, or in a folder placed higher in the scenery priority list in the Scenery Library.

Hi Tom:

Your info is correct, of course. :)

I was not 'yet' inclined to explain that- and alphanumeric naming- until I knew more about the OP's FSX level of comprehension.

I was anticipating we might find out what FSX scenery library Area layer folder chain the OP was placing his scenery in after output by ADE, as well as what the Airports were that showed the failure to display the scenery library objects he had placed.

Perhaps if he replies again we can be of more assistance as we see how he grasps the many concepts needed for scenery building.
