• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

If you have an existing 1.79 version then please update that installation after backing it up. Please only create a clean install if this is your first 1.79 install.

This version consolidates past updates and the following new fixes or functions
  • It is now possible to set the altitude of ILS elements (Localizer, Glide slpe and DME) separately of each other
1587565700517.png

  • Added four new Airport Background terrain poly types (ending in Smooth). These are implemented but at the moment do not appear to work. This may be an ADE error or something related to P3D v5 LM have been contacted EDIT This has been fixed based on the reply from LM see separate post
1587565601836.png

  • Mouse over tooltips for Slope enabled properties such as aprons, parking, taxi points and taxi paths now display the slope properties and values

Just tested in my heavily-sloped LTFM (almost 100 feet between thresholds), works perfectly.
Again a big thank you for the hard work and fast software upgrade!

NEW AIRPORT BACKGOUND TYPES

As reported earlier there are four new airport background types with the suffix 'smooth' These did not initially work when added to a test airport. LM advised that they are implemented and the most likely cause of them failing is that there is no entry for them in the terrain.cfg file. If these new types do not appear do anything in sim the go to %Program Data%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5 and remove terrain.cfg (or rename it. Run v5 to allow it to regenerate terrain.cfg and check the contents which shound now contain entries ending in smooth. This worked fine in testing

On opening stock VABB I am getting numerous surrounding scenery objects (autogen?) included with it.

Not sure what you mean. You may get library objects named autogenerated. They are perfectly normal and you will probably find a lot more of them in v5 than v4, We are still looking at the extent of them I guess this is hat you are seeing

That is correct is what I am referring to, another instance I found is OPKC. But I am not sure if they should be getting included as part of the airport/afcad by ade? Any reason why they show up in v5 but didn't in v4?

Yes - they did not exist in v4. I am looking at making the range for loading stock objects in the users control so some of these could be left out of the project file

I must not have done something right.I downloaded and installed the new update, but nothing seems to have changed. All I noticed is that it changed the directory name, I haven't noticed any new features or anything. Did I do something wrong?

I have slight problem after installing this update. I now get out of system memory errors when attempting to autosave or even save an airport. Now what?

It seems to have fixed itself ,don't even know what caused it, but it's not doing it anymore, weird.

It's back again. Is it possible to go back to the original 1.79 before the update, without having to do a clean install? I never had any memory problems until now, everything was working fine and now I keep getting those annoying memory errors. I want my original version back. I don't want to waste time trying to figure out what is going on with the update and the memory problem. I got other things to work on besides having to figure out the program problems. Can I just re-install the original version over the updated version without loosing anything? Oh and BTW, I tried the backup thing before upgrading, and it didn't save the files correctly and they won't restore or even load. I always get nervous with upgrades, something usually goes wrong, and in this case it did. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Ok, now I'm confused, it says this is supposed to be a new version 1.79.7417, then why does mine still say 1.79.7475?
I'm lost here. Is this an older version? I thought this was an upgrade to 7475 ,clearly I misunderstood something here. Now how do I get my original one to go back to working correctly?

Hi Tom:

First, do not delete the current ADE folder chains that you plan to fix or delete, until you browse them and manually back up those folder chains using WinRAR, 7-Zip or another such utility that can be configured to keep the "relative" folder structure when making (big) ZIP files as backups.

Otherwise just create a top folder elsewhere on your hard drive with a descriptive name, and manually copy your ADE sub-folder chain into it.

FYI: I have multiple side-by-side installs of ADE FS2Kx versions 1.65, 1.78, 1.79, and MSFS version "alpha-20" (updated to the last 'Hot Fix 5').

I never allowed ADE to over-write an existing installation except in the case of well-vetted Hot Fix releases, and I nearly always waited weeks, months, and even years for those releases to mature and let the vetting process eradicate 'bugs' ...on someone else's computers.

This is my practice with Windows as well: I always wait at least 4 to 6 years before I upgrade versions, as I require reliability, consistency, and security in my work, and do not have the time to deal with core software that is not "stable".

That said, I have done a significant amount of work with software developers for decades, testing and consulting on feature implementation; doing that requires a "stable" Operating System and computer firmware / hardware platform ...to test Alpha and/or Beta software builds.

Anyway, you should be able to create side-by-side ADE installs.

IIRC, Jon purposely does not write anything into the Windows Registry, so there should be no conflict between ADE installs when a particular version of ADE executable is running.

I also have numerous installs of FSX, FS2004, and FS2002, with all of which I can swap between configurations in the Windows user profile system folders, and in the Windows Registry.

Not that one would normally want to configure FS that way, of course.

My point is you can have more than (1) install of ADEv1.79 if you wish.

Just create the target install folder location as a sub-folder off the Root of your hard drive before installing again, giving it a name that includes the version number.

After installed, find the ADE executable and create a shortcut to it, again using a name that includes the numeric version.

Not sure what update file you are using. Development of ADE is frozen and there is a page in this forum with last updates. This is 1.79

ADE Development Version
There is usually a development version of ADE. This is where new and enhanced features are tested and bugs fixed. If there is a development version you are welcome to try it out

The current development version is 1.79 and it supports the newly released P3D v5

Gary is correct ADE does not write to the registry and each install is separate provided you put them in a unique root folder.

Build numbers are not usually significant. It represents a date. As I recall if there was changes made by me then the major and minor version numbers will be changed.

I figured as much. I will try to install the new version into another folder. I re-installed the original version and it fixed the memory error problem. I realized what had happened, the new version here installs to the exact same folder as my original, so when I installed it, it overwrote some of the original files in that folder (since it did not create a new folder, it just overwrote files in the same folder) and it must have overwritten some .dll file or something to cause the memory error. I just didn't pay attention to the folder name before I hit the install button and didn't realize the new install used the same folder name as the original. Anyway, no fault of yours, I just didn't pay attention to the folder name. Everything is working again. OH BTW: Why doesn't the update feature work anymore in ADE? It just comes up saying "unable to download file" and aborts. Is the update server no longer working or is there some problem on my end?

Hi again:

AFAIK, Jon has "frozen" development of ADE;, the last version (aka "update") for FS2Kx (FS2004 through P3Dv5) is ADEv1.79x.

Jon has transferred the downloads of ADE and related downloadable content to FSDEV.

Thus, updates will no longer work, so you can disable the ADE startup check for updates via ADE GUI menus.

I thought it might be something like that, thanks, I will go in and dissable the auto update check. I was directed here from another thread telling me that this "new" version had a feature that created a backup in .zip format, so I just assumed this was an update, but then I looked at the date this thread was started and realized that this is the version I already had installed. It appears that when I "installed" this version which is my original, it replaced a couple of files that were located in a "patch" that was released with this version that fixes the memory problem. Obviously since this is the latest version (which I already had) and I installed it over my existing install, it overwrote the patch files. Once I put the patch files back in, everything returned to normal operation. I feel kinda stupid for not watching when this thread was started, if I had, I would have noticed I already had this version installed and the feature that was mentioned was already available, I just never had to use it until now. Sorry for the confusion, it pays to watch the dates on a thread, you can sure screw things up if you're not careful.
