• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA ADE and photo scenery

All,

I'm working on an airport scenery project, and I just switched the method I use to create the background aerial imagery. Previously, I created FS2002 style ground polys, and covered them with hi-rez imagery. By tweaking the .asm files, I created several other layers of ground polys for my runways, taxiways, lines, skidmarks, etc. All of these elements are created in 3ds Max. Using this method ensures that the underlying ADE stuff is hidden from view, which is the desired result.

However, in order to rectify some shortcomings of using that method, I instead used resample to create an FSX native photoscenery. Now, my ADE scenery is "below" my runways/taxiways, but "above" my photoscenery background.

There are many places where the ADE taxiways are exposed and visible, and I want to avoid this at all costs. Is there a way to alter the layer ordering for ADE scenery?

I'm assuming that's not possible, so what is the best way to hide the ADE stuff? Set the taxiway width artificially narrow? Use "apron" links so no surface is drawn at all?

What do you do about runway/taxiway intersections where large pavement fillets are drawn where they don't exist in the real world? Can I make my runways artificially narrow without any ill-effect?

Thanks for your help!

Regards,

Nick

There are some hold short issues with very narrow taxiways, but I don't know the details.

I assume that it is OK to use Apron Routes exclusively, which will avoid almost all visual problems with taxiways, except where they intersect runways and hold short markings. I thought there was a "don't draw this runway" choice in FSX, but I don't use FSX and others would have to tell you if this is true. If not you would have to set it very narrow.

Hope this helps,

Use apron links for all taxiways. This will stop the draw of taxiway textures but still allow you to use the proper width. Fillets will not draw. Holdshorts will not draw if you use the no draw holdshort type node.
