• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE Changes Since MS Update

Ever since the latest Microsoft update, my Airport Design Editor (version 1.79) is acting weird. At start up, it is asking me what version of FSX I’m using, but doesn’t give me any choices, when I click to “x” out, the program starts.

I can update or edit airports, but it is no longer saving per my options, even when I try to reset my options to what I want.

Anyone else having problems?

Thanks,
Reggie

If you have only one version of the Sim installed then ADE will open for that version. ADE relies on the registry to find what versions you have. It seems that you may have lost the settings file or the path to the registry has changed.
If you can get ADE to open then go to Tools > New User Wizard and go to the Folders Tab

You need to make sure that the paths are correct.

Checked this and it is correct. I’m using P3Dv6 by the way. ADE was working fine until the MS update.

Do you mean a Windows update with a MS update?

Yes Sir, the MS 24H2 update (Windows 11). Getting this at startup now. I can't choose anything in the drop down box. When I click the "x", the program starts, but also having some issues compiling.

That red message box is a clear indication that ADE is not picking up any entries for sims. I guess the update you applied has affected the registry.

There is a "nuclear" option to get versions to appear. In the main ADE Folder there is a file called global.ini Make a backup copy of it since you are editing the main ini file for ADE.

In the screenshot above there is an entry under [TARGET] called ShowAll and it is set to True

If this is present the set it to True. If it is not present then add it. Restart ADE and it should offer a full list of versions supported. It shows them whether you have the version installed or not. Select the one for the version you have. Bear in mind this is really a hack until you can sort out the registry entries

ADE should remember the version you selected. Try this to confirm or otherwise you can get a FS version to run or not

Okay, so I followed the instructions. Interestingly, there was no "Target" entry in the Global.ini. I had to enter the whole "Target" section. I rebooted my computer, and still got the same results. I've tried locating ADE in the Registry, but my search produced no results.

Do I need to try a fresh install?

post a screenshot of the global.ini that you have in the ADE main application folder. I presume you changed it as discussed above? If there is no valid version found in the registry then you may not have a target entry

I just went ahead and performed a clean reinstall. Here's what I have now. It is working fine, but now I get the light blue intro box and have to make a selection every time I open the program. Prior to the MS update, the program opened without having to make a selection. But, I am happy with this. I'm still unable to find ADE in the Registry.

I appreciate your taking the time to assist.

Reggie

With ShowAll=true you may not get a selection stored. ADE does not make any entries into the registry. It reads the registry and looks for the entries installed but the different versions FS9, FSX etc it finds. Each sim version should install registry entries when it is installed.
ADE has fixed links to registry entries. It is no longer actively updated so as time and installations change around it the it will slowly stop working properly. If your update has moved entries or your sims are not properly installed then ADE won't find an entry and will not all it to the selector list.

If you have it working now I suggest you leave well alone

Understand Sir. I'm using P3Dv6, so that explains why there's no selection for that sim. But, as said, it's working fine.

As a flight simmer for many decades, I thank you for your contributions to the sim flight world, and thank you for taking the time to assist me with this issue.

Cheers,
Reggie
