• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE - Check for updates

Hi Folks

Jon -
Mean't to ask about this several versions ago. :D

Could you please have a look at the 'Check for updates' process.

For me, click -
- Help
- Check for updates
- Click the 'Check Now' box.
- Window's contents are updated accordingly.
- Click the link.
- Launches a File download Run/save dialog.
- Click save.
- Dialog immediately disappears.

No prompt for where to save.

Clcking the link again,
just flashes the box instantaneously.

I've 18 drives/partitions spread over 4TB on this machine/network.

Looked in all the usual places -
tmp, ADE, IE last save as, IE cache, etc.

Never been able to find where the file is stashed to.

Can you possibly force the save to a sub-folder of ADE ?

If not possible to control,
can dest path be written to ade log ?

Many thanks
ATB

Paul - you choose where to save when the Save Dialog comes up.

On my system when I click Save I get a Save As dialog box that lets me save the file. This is actually nothing to do with ADE but it uses the Internet Explorer Save mechanisms.

However not with standing that the update mechanism used from 1.30 is quite different and you can specify a folder to save ADE updates in. Unfortunately this will only help for versions post 1.30. The update installer for 1.30 has just been posted to AVSIM and Flightsim but if you would like it now I would be happy to email it to you :)

Hi Folks

Jon -
Cheers re: Avsim & your email offer
I'd already obtained the file
by copying the URL from within the dialog,
then firing up a download client. :D

Unique to ADE
I've never been given the option of where to save. :D

Every other Save/Save As performed within IE
gives me the option where to save.

Excellent to hear things will have changed.

Check for update now appears to do nothing,
both with/without the auto-check for updates ticked. :D
What should I be seeing now please ?

Using XP Pro SP2, Net 2 & 3, IE6.

Many thanks

I've no idea what is happening on your system Paul, I have just updated on both XP and Vista. On XP I use Internet Download Manager and it requests where to store the file. On Vista, it used the default "Run/Save" dialog. In both cases the update worked perfectly.

George

Edit. I see you are using IE6, I have IE7 on both machines.

Edit 2. Just a thought. Is the window opening behind another? This happened to me on XP.

Edit 3. "Check for updates exits gracefully if ADE is up-to-date :D

George has answered - if there is no update available then the auto update check appears silent. Actually the manual check needs improving - it should tell you that you are up to date but it doesn't :o

Hi Folks

George -
No windows behind, (first thing I'd checked).

Exits gracefully. :D

No problem running the update itself,
just finding where it was downloaded to. :rotfl:

Jon -
re: Manual check
'No updates available', (or similar message),
was notified through 1.26,
hence my raising this.

On testing,
the dialog box is different.

IE right-click 'Save As' gives -
Title - File Download
Content - % download indicator
Buttons - Open + Open Folder + Cancel
With a Save As, select location dialog.

ADE updater & IE left-click.
Clicking link gave -
Title - File Download
Content - FILENAME
Buttons - Run + Save + Cancel
With no other dialog.

No download manager in use. :D

To tell the truth I have no idea. ADE uses standard protocols to invoke the brower and hands over responsibility to get the file. I guess it may send something that IE6 deals with differently than later versions.

Thanks for pointing out the problem in the manual check in 1.30 we will fix that in the next release

So what's the problem, use Left-click, "Save"

Left-click save does not give me a 'Save As' dialog.

It just dumps the file somewhere amongst 4TB. :D

Right click save-as might work from that dialog,
but as it now 'fails gracefully'
I can't test that situation.
