• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE Compiling Problem

I am new to using ADE. I can't seem to get it to save my compiled airport files. I have tried everything suggested in this thread, with no success. I have the latest ADE ver 1.05, I have the SP1a SDK. I checked "updates", it says I have all the correct versions. I get no error indicators when I check my airport file, and I do get the "airport compiled" box when I try to compile and save. I have tried saving to the desktop as well as to the FSX scenery/scenery directory.
I assume I am missing something really simple, but I am at a loss as how to proceed.
Any thoughts?
BTW, I am using FSX with SP1 and Acceleration installed. Is it possible I should remove SP1?

Are you saying you are not getting a bglfile or you can't find it?

Can you also please find a file called ade_200803.log that will be in the ADE application folder and post it here as an attachment? With the log we have a better chance of seeing what is happening

ADE Compilation

I installed the SDK that is on the Acceleration disc, which on mine is shown as SDK SP1a.

Compilation Problem

I assume I am not getting a file, as I have looked in the folder where I indicated I wanted it saved and it isn't there. I also did a file search on my hard drives, and it doesn't show up. BTW I have FSX installed on a different drive than ADE if that means anything. I have attached the log file.
Thanks for your quick response.

This is where the compiled file is going - is that where you expected?

C:\Documents and Settings\Burt Widener\Desktop\Airports\KASH_ADE_BLW

Your BglComp path is

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\BGL Compiler SDK

which looks OK

Yes, that is what I specified as a save location. But it doesn't show up after I save. I have tried various other save locations with the same results. It's as if it doesn't actually create a file when compiled. This is really puzzling, I appreciate your help. I am probably doing something dumb to cause this, but I have no idea what to try next. Is it possible that GrahamS is right and I need the SP2 version of the SDK?

BTW, the ADE is an excellent program, I can't imagine how much work this must be for you. We all owe you a big thanks.

Hmmm. Not sure why then - perhaps you could email me the actual ade file to jon AT scruffyduck.co.uk. That will be KASH_ADE_BLW.ade - then I can make sure it will compile here

The version of BglComp you have looks like the SP1 or SP1a version and ADE can see them - they should be OK - the ones that are not OK are those from the deLuxe DVD.

Glad you like the program but we need to get it working properly for you. What operating system are you using? Ther ecan be problems with Vista

I have repeatedly done the file search, including searching hidden and system files just in case. Oh well, I'll keep working on it.

Just for the heck of it I tried compiling the file directly at the cmd prompt. I have no idea if is this is a valid method or not. When I tried, I got:
Internal Compiler error: #C1003 Failed to create MSXML object 0x80004005

Also:
Internal Compiler error: #C2430 unrecoverable error parsing XML
Internal Compiler error: #C2006 Parse failed
Internal error: C2003 Failed to process file C:\(my file location & name)

Does this help in anyway to understand the problem, or is it just a waste of time?

I then installed the SDK SP2. The results were the same..identical to the problem I related on prior posts.
I hate to be a pest, so if you can't give me any further suggestions I guess I'll have to give up.

Thanks for your patience

You can't compile an ade file if that is what you are trying to do. It does not contain any XML.

I thought as much. Just a last desperate attempt to get the ade file compiled since the program doesn't seem to actually compile and save it for me. I guess I will just have to write it off to one of those computer mysteries that occur now and then, but damn, I sure wanted to use ADE.:(
