• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX ADEX Windsock

Is there a way to get a more appealing windsock than the one used by ADEX? The one I see on the scenery created by ADEX looks like a toy :( I am trying to move to ADEX but all the scenery I have generated with the other, ehem, FSX Planner, puts a very nice windsock.

Hi Emilio:

Try this one.. it's rather nice ! ;)

FYI: When placing, you may wish to correct the Heading in the XML code before compiling, as I believe that the "3D wire frame" model in question is rotated approximately 8.5 degrees from the desired "0" reference point heading in the 3-D World, so that if a heading in XML placement of "0" degrees is used, the object does not precisely follow the FS Wind Direction (always expressed in degrees Magnetic).

Thus, one may also need to factor in the local Magnetic Declination for where it is placed when setting the Heading.

PS: I believe Jörg Dannenberg aka "jdberg" may have been the author of the above linked windsock so generously posted for us to use here at FSDeveloper.

I recently saw a thread suggesting he may be working on a very cool new version, so let us hope he will share that with us here as well (...many thanks, Jörg ! :o )

Hope this helps ! :)

Hmmm as far as I know both programs generate the same xml windsock  Of course you will get a much better one if you use a library object.

Hi Gary,
thanks for the compliment. Naturally I would share a new version but there is no new version planned I am sorry. The manual you mention describes the method of the bones animation, which is a FSX SDK method. The windsock was designed with FS2004 SDK.
What I was working on is to animate people for my project. In the end I got it:
