• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Adjusting Focus and Adding Attachpoints

I have been using MCX for some time and it has become invaluable for my design and production. One of my issues has been perplexing me for some time and the other is just an oddity that there may be no solution for.
The render of MCX is really very good, among the best. Occasionally the render interprets an animation differently than FSX does, unfortunately, but it mimics FSX rendering incredibly well. I only recently discovered the right-click drag, which makes it easier to examine a model in detail. I am hoping there may be some control or adjustment for the pivot point (or point-of-focus) for the field of view. Most times, while scrolling -and now dragging - around through MCX, the impression is that I have a very long nose. To see the opposite side of an object, I must back up and rotate an entire airport to see the back side of that particular model. Other times, the FOV pivots around the specific model perfectly, as if the view was focused at or near the center of the model. Is there any way to control this focus point?

My other question is about attach points for a aircraft carrier catapult. I am able to animate only one catapult and associated blast shield, no other catapults will trap or capture a launch bar. I have read that there are problems if attach points are too far from the center of a model, I had to shorten and adjust forward the runway just to get the lights and IFLOLS to show. The one catapult that does work is the furthest back and closest to the center, however I moved the end point for the second cat to be the same distance from the center as cat 1 to no effect.
I would love to explore anyone's ideas about how to enable the second catapult.

I assume that MCX rotates around the 0,0,0 point of the object, as constructed in GMAX or similar.

I am sorry to not have been clear enough:

Yes, this is the case, assumedly.

In a way that is not characteristic with the origin (0, 0, 0) as the center of the model group. You can have several distinct models that are part of a larger model, like a group of hangars. Normally MCX seems to rotate about the origin, but I have seen this locus change to what appears to be the center of a model within the group, the center of one of the hangars, for example.

Even with multiple objects, there will be a single 0,0,0 point in the scene (there can be only one in a GMAX scene). That's where it rotates around.

I am really confident that I have seen this point of focus change, while viewing a specific model as part of a group. I will accept that you have not witnessed this focus point change and if there are no other replies, you'll have the final word. However, if there is a way to control what I believe I have experienced, I would like to know how.

Hi,

I never said I knew where it rotated, I said I assumed it. So I did some investigation. The scene in MCX revolves around the center of the screen, not the 0,0,0 point of the object. You can use the right mouse button to drag the objects so the center of what you want is in the center of the screen. Then it will revolve around that point with the left mouse button.

Hope this helps,

Sounds like it's the perfect cure for my dilemma, thanks. Now if you can get my catapult working you'll be my FSX God for a day...
