• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

AED backround image + correct placements

Hey guys,

I've searched the forum for my question, but I didn't find a real answer yet..
So I hope someone can help me..

With ADE and Google earth, I want to make an up-to-date AFCAD for KADW.
I've made a picture in google earth of the area, and placed it as background in ADE. But I always have problems with placing the corners of the image on the right cordinates..

Now my question is, can someone explain me, or give me tips, how to place an image from google earth on the exact position (incl. height and width) in ADE?

If there are other ways to place things correctly, let me know!

Thx in advance guys,
Sam

Good morning,

Please refer to page 71, 72 and 73 of the manual.
That should make things clear (at least to me:).

Section 8.3 of the English Manual covers how to place, move, resize or rotate background images.

We cross posted - Section 8.3 starts on page 71 :D

Good Morning Sam,

Though Roby and Jon have given the page numbers for the manual, I can tell you that SBuilderX can give you the coordinates that you need... There is a Tutorial that was written awhile back in placing Background maps in ADE. (Back when it was written ADE was called ADEH, the "H" stand for Home). I think its still around.. its called ADEH_Tutorial_3. If you can't find or locate it (I think Jon website still has it,... Jon is that correct?)... send me a Private Message and I'll be glad to send it to you.

EDIT: Yes I just looked on Jon's Website and it is still there... Jon's website is: http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/

I used the rhumbamaps (http://www.ludowise.x10hosting.com/gmaps/rhumbamaps.html) but when I open the map in a new window, the image is separated in different pieces instead of 1 big image..

Any idea how to get the full screen image (and not by photoshoping the pieces together :p )

greets

I use firefox browser and don't have that problem. I open the new window via the "windows" button and use the "fire shot" extension to capture the entire page to clipboard and then paste that into an image editor to save as jpg.

k thx,
tried this..

Now the problem is that the cordinates in the box of the main page don't fit the image that I've opened in a new window.

I used the big image (1600x1200), placed it in ADE but it's the image is too small..

The image :
http://www.ludowise.x10hosting.com/...824304496833605&CLongitude=-76.86374455690384

The cordinates (according to rhumbamaps) :
[GEOGRAPHIC]
Name=Photo_0001
North=38.8249313843316
South=38.82367760381603
West=-76.8648174405098
East=-76.86267167329788

I save an image from Google Earth. Then pin a placemark on opposite corners of the runway, or some other significant visible object (then I leave the placemark window open).
Then I create a position marker in ADE with the same co-ordinates (copy-paste), Then I move the placemark to another identifiable point and create another position marker.
Using Position Image, I move and scale it until the points lie under the markers.

Try to avoid rotating the image because that seems to slow down ADE.

I think you're right -- there may be a bug. I tested it at the default zoom (15) and it's fine, but when I set to the zoom you used (19) I got the same corner coordinates you did and it is too small. Maybe Dick needs to take a look at this. I will test at different zooms, and I think also he released the source code so it shouldn't be too hard to fix I would think.

Took a quick look, and it seems that the browser html is calling the Google Maps API map.getBounds() function. Then it runs a function call ShowBounds() which simply extracts the lats and longs from the results of map.getBounds() and displays them in the box. So unless somehow it is calling or extracting the lats and longs incorrectly the html itself isn't doing any processing. Will continue investigations.
