• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

AIFP and P3D V5

AIFP 3.2.21(e) seems not collect addon airports when they are compiled with the compiler from the P3D version 5 SDK. It finds the active addon folders, but when selecting the newly (or ammended) added airports. When clicking on "collect" the box remains empty.
When I point to the same addons (but compiled with the vers. 3 SDK) in the P3D version 3 files it finds all 153 airports !
I made these addons original for P3D v3 for the "missing / runway only / misplaced" airports in Russia and China with ADE 1.75 and now ammend them wit ADE 1.79
All my addons are clearly visible in P3D5 and work ok, just collecting addons in AIFP is impossible.

Any suggestions?

Some time ago I changed AIFP so that P3D upgrades that do not affect AIFP functionality would be handled automatically. Perhaps I missed something.

I'll take a look.

No, don't need any files. But, it would be helpful to know where these airports are stored, e,g, Scenery Library path, Documents\Prepar3d v5 Add-ons, Documents\Prepar3d v5 Files, Program Data\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3d v5\add-ons.cfg, etc. (not sure there's an etc.).

I have just posted Development Release 3.2.21(f) at http://stuff4fs.com.

I discovered that AIFP was not searching P3D scenery "discovery" paths - which it now does. While this may not have been your issue, it needed fixing anyway.

Please give it a try - confirm the title bar reports 3.2.21(f) - and check back.

The files are stored outside the P3D5 folder, under D:/P3Dscenery/RusExtras/scenery, there are also more subdirs under D:/P3Dscenery wich contains the object files. P3D5 is working perfect with these arrangement. The scenery.cfg is adjusted to point to these subdirs.
I also moved once to test, the RusExtras dir to within the Addons Scenery inside P3D and configured P3D's "scenery library" to point to them. P3d worked also ok, no difference and AIFT also found the "active sceneries" (now then under the addon scenery), found all these RusExtras airports but still refused to "collect them".
I can place them wherever i like as long as the "scenery library" is adjusted accordingly. AIFT finds them always but refuse them to collect. If I put V3 and V5 addons in the same dir, it finds them all but only "collects" the V3 airports. I did a collect version 5 default airports and that was ok.
Strange
Hope this helps you.
Kind regards

Our posts may cross again, but it doesn't matter. Based on your post 2 above, I doubt the development release will have any effect on your issue.

The collect airports function was developed pre-P3D, before the various P3D add-on schemes existed. It was later modified to address (it now appears incompletely)the new schemes. What is now the last step in the process, i.e., the invitation to select the addon airports of interest used to be the entire process. The reason for this is explained in the user manual.

Since your airports do not use the "new" P3D processes, AIFP's collect airports function will not find them unless you specify their location in that last step. (The "collect airports" function intentionally operates differently from other aspects of AIFP - which may find the airports of concern.)

It now occurs to me (due to an exception you may encounter when testing the new version) there is another deficiency in AIFP's handling of the P3D-specific schemes. That is, no attention is paid to whether or not add-ons encountered during the P3D processing are active or not. So, it would seem appropriate to add a checkbox to the collect airports dialog. Then, if the user selected "active airports only", there would be no need manually select the airports of interest.

EDIT: Alternatively, I could change the function to look for active airports only.

You also as I will not give up he! Excellent guy.
I tried your new version (F) No luck. I did once again a test. First... What should happen in AIFP if there are more than 1 file for the same airport? (could give you a clue about the problem) I put 4 files (2 per airport) in the same dir and pointed aifp for addons there. It found 4 airports and collected them. The version 3 ones.
I know what troubleshooting is ( a pain in the ass :D) Can write books about that. I worked 45 years as an electronic engineer in ships navigation equipment.
Here are the pictures of the test (I suppose the file NAMES V3-V5 give the necessary info)
Regards.

Not sure I completely understand your message - other than the "no luck" part.

In any case, I'm in the process of implementing an "active/ inactive/don't care" choice. Standby.

What I wanted to point out is: It does not collect P3D version 5 files. The 8 files you see there are 4 airports, each in version 3 and version 5 compilated by ADE 1.75 and 1.79 respectively. It reads and find them all in that directory but refuses to collect the version 5 AP's.
If you want more test, just ask and tell what I have to do No problem, always glad to help solving this problem.
Regards

I'm confused - you say that it did find version 3 and version 5 files. Then it refuses to collect version 5 files.

Sorry
The AIFP issue: Simply put: AIFP does not read inside the P3D v5 bgl's to retrieve the AP info

step by step work:
- starting aifp, set target version to P3Dv5
- menu Airports "Find/Collect airports
- in "collect airport data" selecting Addon airports - P3Dv5 - Directory tree
- Browsing in "Choose addon-folders" to the directory of intrest (IMG 1-Choose addon folders)
- select the files of intrest/deselect non relevant ones
- click "use selected/checked"
- in the window "collect airport data" click on "collect" Result: empty listview, nothing retrieved (IMG 2-collect)
Now: stay at targeted version P3Dv5 but now browsing to a version 3 addon directory (IMG 3-Choose addon folders-V3)
- again select/ deselect the appropiate files
- click "use selected/checked"
- in the window "collect airport data" click on "collect"
- Result 153 airports retrieved (IMG 4-collect-V3)

The version 3 and 5 bgl's are essentially the same except the compiler used (both from the relevant P3D SDK via ADE 175 (v3) and ADE179 (v5))

OK. Now I understand. PV5 must have changed something in the .bgl that AIFP uses to determine if the file contains an airport. A couple of your PV5 files would help

Ok, no problem. 1 zip contains the complete project of UAAT with source code in ad4 format (ADE 179). The other zip only the airport bgl for 3 others.
If you need more or something else just let me know. Please bear in mind that if you don't have the object files you won't see the objects in the scenery. I made those bgl strictly for personal use and used some 3rd party objects.
