• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Airbus A350 XWB

I might be able to get a paint-kit ready before release, but ofcourse you wouldn't beable to see what you've painted if I do that ;)

No, it will probably be in .psd format ;) that way things like rivets get preserved during the painting, as they are a seperate layer that can be moved over the painted layer.

It will be in .DDS format F747fly, PSD is just the worksheet which you convert to a .DDS file so FSX can read it

I know @Roel ;) but the paintkit that will be available for painters to download will be in psd format which needs to be exported/converted to DDS ofcourse ;) ofcoure FSX needs the eventually used textures to be DDS format files.

I just noticed I'll have to adjust some gear parts with reference to their scale. I'll do that before UV'ing those parts, hopefully they will then be the right scale. Also the gear-whell (I have no idea if that's the correct way to spell that) needs a bit of adjusting. It is one of those parts which are difficult to estimate when it ckmes to scale... So I'll be messing with that for a while aswell ;)

gear-wheel..? You mean the tire ?

Main landing gear : 1400x530R23 42PR
Nose landing gear : 1050x395R16 28PR
^^ according to Airbus document (metric system - you may have missed that part as such document should be among the very first to get for a project like yours)

MLG : 1400 millimeters diameter, 530 mm in width, Radial type, 23 inches (584 mm) rim diameter, 42 ply rating (maximum recommended load)
NLG : 1050 mm diam., 395 mm width, Radial type, 16 in (406 mm) rim diam., 28 ply rating.

Distance between main landing gear tires (center/lateral) : 1.735m (5.692 ft / 68.3 in)
Distance between main landing gear bogies (rotation axis/longitudinal) : 2.040m (6.693 ft / 80.31 in)

Distance between nose landing gear tires (center/lateral) : 0.748m (2.454 ft / 29.45 in)

If you were talking about something else (struts, compression/shock absorbers/suspensions, hydraulics/levers, etc.) dimensions, those are indeed harder to find.

I believe it's officially called a 'landing gear compartment' :D

Gear/wheel bay/well would be okay I guess.

Ah-haaa ! Right ! Makes sense now.
Well, I'm of no help there. Best is get in touch with someone working at Airbus maybe ? (or maybe not :/ )

Sorry I did mean the Landing Gear Compartment. Quite strange.. I've always used the word gear well but couldn't remember how to spell it...

Anyway, contacting airbus is also a logical stap. I've already tried that once, however I ended up getting a friendly reply notifying me I was asking the wrong department and was directed to a webmaster. I have however not heard back yet... Perhaps send a letter (instead of an email) to Toulouse?

Last time someone I know contacted Airbus for a freeware project for Flightsim, he got a reply like "not allowed, copyrighted design"... since then, he never modeled Airbus anymore.

Seriously? What aircraft did he model?

It's one friend of mine, in France. I taught him how to model in GMax. He had the A400M and the A300-600ST in his plans and sent an email to Airbus to find how he could get documents and blueprints. That was a couple of years ago. Maybe he didn't ask the correct person/department, and/or maybe the A400 is "special" as a military technology. We were just "individuals", perhaps not "serious" persons too, not related to any company whatsoever.

That's why I'm kind of "Maximum Alert!" when it comes to companies.
When we was students doing AI traffic, some people in the juridic department of the main (but small) airline in my country threatened us they were going to sue us for ternishing the image of the company, because :
- we "undisclosed classified information" about the airline fleet details and history in our forum (data courtesy of Planespotters and ATDB.org, and because we talke about the origin of the presidential BBJ)
- used the airline logo when making the Antananarivo scenery and AI traffic without permission (well, actually, we asked ! to one person in the airline responsible for the airline image and communication)
- and demonstrated the airline was not as large as Air France or United Airlines by providing only the actual eleven Boeing, ATRs and T.Otter in the fleet at the time as both AI and Flyable.
(something like 19000-21000€ for caused prejudice)
One large airline company in the US is also well known for NOT allowing flightsim repaints of its aircraft (but that doesn't prevent painter for making them anyway)

For me, it is as like Skinner_11 said : at the end, we'll use "Air Whatever" on "Boweng 373-8 WAX" and "Warebousz W380-200", and slightly faked logos... Asking myself if that's better for the said companies...

Best is ask someone you personnaly know at the manufacturer (or airline) That's what we did with the said airline. He intervened in our case and we didn't get problems thereafter (but did he granted us the right to use the airline logo as a personal opinion or as an official airline decision, we don't know...) We were even featured in a limited book issued for the 50th anniversary of the airline a few months later, and that's because the guy was the Communication Director at the time... ironically. tssss! But we never made anything related to that airline since, at least on the public side.

Same story, as always... Thanks for sharing Karl :D

Now F747fly should be afraid, because Airbus might think customers will buy/purchase his A350 instead the Airbus one... Ehehe...

Make it this: Luchtbus L350 EBR* :D:D

Now back to work, there's a lot of work left ;)

* Extra Brede Romp :D

Yes indeed! Well I didn't get such a not-allowed message back, but perhaps see if there is a way to get in touch with an airbus employee who I "know" isn't a bad idea either... However I know nobody directly, so I might have to take a look at how...

Or I just say that it looks nothing like an Airbus A350 ;)

anyway I got some more images to show the current status of the aircraft and also a bit of the problem with the gear compartment. I know I've overexposed these images somewhat... And I forgot to put the F747fly name in, but I guess you guys don't mind ;)

Also last time I set the rotations and scales to zero I forgot to slide the animation timeline to zero so now the spoilers are a mess... I'll fix that... :p
