• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Aircraft will not backtrack

I'm having a bit of frustration as I can't figure the problem out. I hade made a few adjustments to my home field TLPC mainly expanding the parking apron as was done in real life.

Anyway all worked fine except when I decided to delete the blast pads on both ends of the single runway airfield, extend the secondary displaced threshold and remove runway edge lines and precision markings to make things more in line with the real. That's when things fell apart. AI then began to no longer backtrack to the take off end of the runway as they did in default scenery before I made changes to the runway. Instead they enter the runway at the intersection which is about 1/3 of the runway length and take off. With a cargo 727 taking off, it runs of the runway. Before with backtracking that would not have been a problem.

I understand the runway taxiway needs to be on the entire length of the runway and must be assigned to the runway and that it must be attached to the taxiway intersection nodes. Done all that but they still won't backtrack as they used to.

If I don't mess with the runway lengths (displaced threshold, blast pads) I don't get that problem but as soon as I make any adjusments to the above there is no more backtracking.

CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I have included a screenshot and two xml files the one which says good works correctly with aircraft backtracking properly and the one which says bad the aircraft do not backtrack as they are supposed to.

IF SOMEONE CAN TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG I WILL GREATELY APPRECIATE IT!!!

Thanks!!!

Normally it takes about 1,000 ft minimum from the runway entrance to the end of the runway to make AI aircraft back taxi.

Since you have removed the black runway length from the displaced threshold to the end of the runway - that shortens the distance to about 820 feet. Too short for a back taxi according to the FS AI programming.

A couple things you can do are to use a plumbing apron path to connect that taxiway to the runway link. That is to not connect the taxiway to the runway at that point, only to a parallel apron link that goes to the end.

Or entend the black runway link to at least 1,000 ft past where the taxiway joins the runway.

One other thing - I would recommend you add back Runway Edge Pavement to your airport. The main impact is to reduce the gap between the runway and the fillet drawn where taxiways connect to the runway.

With out Runway Edge Pavement enabled, hard surface runways will always draw a gap between the edge of the taxiway fillet and the runway.

This works perfectly in afcad2 for FS9. This airport is LIMZ with central taxiway from which AI can taxi to either end of the rwy.
